How can Wilson Audio speakers sound that good if they are using OEM drivers?
To each their own but part of the discovery process involves selling and trading gear to get different gear. I have a lot of respect for the serious DIY guys and what they build as part of their hobby...but I don’t see any savings or creativity in...
How can Wilson Audio speakers sound that good if they are using OEM drivers?
Kit speakers are a better idea than full blown DIY, but they are almost impossible to sell for a decent price and the cabinet finish quality is almost always inferior. Salk Sound and Joseph Audio are basically assembled kit speakers, but done prof...
Thinking of Kef Blade 2 to replace Revel Salon 2
The Blade 2 is crossed over to the side woofers at 320hz. This eliminates the point source and must create an ambiance effect with the reflections. Interesting design.
What makes a speaker sound great at low volume?
No crossover. Tube amp directly driving the woofer...
Two small RELs or One Larger Sub
2 for music (better response). 1 big one for home theater (better special effects).
Teton monitors from Wavetouch Audio - A Must Hear
Are these using the Dayton Audio AMT?
Seal a ported sub?
I believe the biggest obstacle to the traditional 2-channel crowd embracing subwoofers has been the reluctance on the part of makers of 2-channel electronics to offer some of the basic functionality that's been found even in $500 home-theater AVRs...
Seal a ported sub?
A lot of nice subs come with port plugs for music. Socks also work.  If you are trying to integrate a sub with the roll off of your mains, then a sealed sub is preferred. Sealed mains would also be preferred. Stuff some socks or shirts and you can...
Anybody want to talk about the JBL studio 590?
I have the Studio 530 stand mount version and it can embarrass a lot of speakers under 2k, including the LS50. Looks and finish though....not impressive.
The Magnificent Magnepan 30.7 speakers....wait, I don’t like planars!
But can they compete with the latest and greatest Tekton DI? 😛 At some point someone will have heard both.
Auditioning Magnepan MMGi's and 1.7i's (and possibly the 3.7i's) on Monday
The OP starts several threads a day over at reddit /audiophile. His questions seem earnest and thoughtful, but when advice is given he gets defensive and combative if they don’t agree with his already made up conclusions...basically a form of trol...
In search of info from the technical guys
The chip used isn’t terribly important for a subwoofer. The problems with Class D show up in the treble and normally its most obvious to those with younger ears.
How do Walsh Ohm Speakers compare to Thiels?
acoustic panels will reduce the treble energy, but not the bass...resulting in a darker presentation with less life. could be worth experimenting as it will change the sound.
single driver speakers
key is they need tubes. Solid state amps don't normally control their woofers properly and it can be a real mess.
How do Walsh Ohm Speakers compare to Thiels?
The bigger the speaker, generally the harder it is to make it disappear. Something like the Silverline Prelude Plus might work better in your room.
