Best Cartridge Match For Rega RB300 KRELL?????
It seems to me that those cartridges are too expensive for a stock RB300, and that the money might be better spent on a new arm (or upgrading the RB300) and a slightly less expensive cartridge. I recently put a michell tecnoweight on my RB300 and ...
What Turntable to buy under $600 ?
I use a Goldring 1042 with my rega. It's quite fiddly to align due to the stylus profile, but sounds very good, and is an excellent match with the table. I think there's a dealer selling them at a special price on audiogon if you search for goldri...
Was your first cartridge relatively expensive?
I think that ham-fistedness breaks cartridges much more frequently than incorrect setup. Incorrect setup might damage the LPs, but only if the tracking weight is grossly incorrect (and tracking weight is the easiest part of setup).Incorrect alignm...
Bearing well oil - NEED ADVISE
Contact the manufacturer !!! Many turntable bearings are designed to operate with high viscosity oils (like 80 weight hypoid gear oil) NOT low viscosity oil. The bearing materials may also be adversely affected by friction modifying additives like...
buyer beware of late
If I see any items from zero feedback sellers that look very suspicious then I email Audiogon.I think we could all do each other a service by doing similar.
Naim Theory on Cableing
I believe naim power amps do not have an inductor in the output signal path to prevent high frequency oscillations (above the audio band). They think this improves the sound. However, this requires that the speaker cables be HIGH INDUCTANCE (not ca...

Theta Pro Basic II DAC......still a contender?
Chad, depending on which Monarchy DIP you have a DIP upgrade could go a long way. If you have the old style DIP with the RCA connections on the front and the power on the back then it uses a PLL to de-jitter, and this can be improved.I went from a...
Budget speakers for Orchestral music?
I would think Spica Angelus would be quite good, if you can live with the looks.
Tonearms for new Linn LP 12
Try asking at www.pinkfishmedia.net/forum/Lot's of LP12 users past and present there. Some will no doubt persuade you that the LP12 is not the best table at it's price point, but you're also likely to get some good advice. People there run Linn, R...
What does 'Fast mean?
Porziob ... it's pretty easy to design a speaker cable with enough inductance to roll off higher frequencies. Too much capacitance and a wide bandwidth amp might start to oscillate.Similarly it's pretty easy to design an interconnect with enough c...
Reviews with all double blind testing?
Pabelson, I completely agree with you with respect to DBT, but then I completely disagree with you that all CD players and amps that are competently designed sound alike. This is simply not what I hear, and there are good reasons that amps and CD p...
What does 'Fast mean?
Glider, the reason for my final sentence is because I believe some audio gear overemphasises attack to make demos more exciting and sell more. More accurate does not necessarily mean more attack. There is also definitely some gear that lessens atta...
What does 'Fast mean?
I have always interpreted it to mean that the attack on leading edges and transients is well defined, and there is an apparent lack of overhang or ringing after the note. It makes music exciting, but too much of it can be fatiguing.
Review: Rega Planar 3 Turntable
"These subplatters are inferiorly machined, no doubt"I wouldn't say that. There is a good chance that they are machined at least as well if not better than a stock P3 subplatter. I was just meaning to say that this is the only possible aspect that...
