REL is dead. Long live REL
Sugarbrie, having said that I agree with you in my previous post, I think the fact that Sumiko has bought a brand name and feels that this will sell is a sad reflection of our society (where "brand recognition" has become more important than subst...
REL is dead. Long live REL
I agree with Sugarbrie. Sounds like Mr Lord needed to retire for a second time and Sumiko bought the rights to the name.Made in China does not mean for one minute that they will be a low quality product. However, it does mean that the importer wil...
Does such a beast exist?
I would say if anyone makes one Cyrus does. Unfortunately they're quite rare on 'gon, though a bit more common on ebay.Cyrus makes some really nice stuff, that's somewhat underrated.
Best Budget Choice for Preamp w/MC Built-In?
Both have an excellent reputation for MC phono stage, particularly the Mission.I just throw them out as great amps. I suspect you'll get more for your money in the price range by staying integrated, and I think the ATI has more power than the GMAs...
Best Budget Choice for Preamp w/MC Built-In?
WG ... The following would workMission Cyrus 2 with PSX (rare, but come up on ebay)Arcam Delta 90 (there's one on Audiogon right now)
Best Budget Choice for Preamp w/MC Built-In?
A used Audiolab 8000C would fit the bill. I used one for a while and found it excellent. It is right in the middle of your price range.Another option would be to sell the ATI and get an integrated amp (like an excellent Cyrus 2) since you will not...
Ring radiator tweeters - the future?
I used to own a 3 way floorstander with a tonegen ribbon tweeter (Heybrook sextets) and those ribbon tweeters were the sweetest treble I ever heard, and neither bulky nor inefficient.
Marantz CD 72 problem
I would check the solder joint where the RCA socket meets the PCB. With pulling interconnects on and off it's not unusual for these joints to crack, or even for a small amount of trace to lift from the PCB.
RB300 versus Linn Ittok
I have no experience with the Ittok, but my RB300 arm on a planar 3 really improved with the addition of the michell tecnoweight. The bass tightened up and the definition improved.
Avid Diva sonic signature - is it a "bright" table
Try asking the same question on www.pinkfishmedia.netThere are several there with experience of Avid tables, and a broad range of cartridges. They will probably be able to advise you. Most guys there hate clinical, thin sounding music, so you shou...
Equipment that has made you 'stop' looking?
Densen B100. I'll use this amp until either it or I expire. Whichever comes first (hopefully the amp !)
TT/Tonearm/cartridge interaction theory?
A particularly important aspect is matching the compliance of the cartridge with the effective mass of the tonearm. The compliance being the springiness of the cantilever on the cartridge.Since we have a weight (tonearm+cartridge) riding on a spri...
Musical Preference: US or UK?
I think the UK AND US mainstream music scenes are both pretty awful. The 60s and 70s produced a lot of fabulous music, and the 90s produced a moderate amount of good stuff on both sides of the atlantic (e.g. Paul Weller in the UK, Natalie Merchant...
Meridian 500 Transport What transport does it use?
You can tell visually if it's a philips swing arm mechanism (CDM4 or earlier) or a linear tracker (CDM9, VAM1201). The CDM4 laser moves through an arc of a circle. Later philips transports use a worm gear to move radially across the disk.I have he...
Amateur inherited an audio system...
I'm with Elizabeth .. keep it. You've inherited a very nice and balanced system. It is simply not true that only audiophiles can hear the difference. My wife is not interested in hifi at all, but she says that music sounds a lot nicer on my system,...
