REK-O-KUT sounds better than my LINN?
Well of course it does. Haven't you seen that Stereophile now ranks the Linn in Class C ??? : ) Sean>
what to do with a pair of AR-9's
Curt, contact Steve Tidwell at Layne Audio regarding directions for proper packing and ship them to him. He specializes in these speakers, is quite honest and is reasonably priced. I've had him do drivers from my collection of modified AR's ( 9's ...
Help with power amp
Mosfets are far from fragile in my experience. Two of my amps are Mosfet designs with NO protection in them whatsoever other than fuses on the mains. I have pounded on these things with very low impedance loads time and time again and they have ne...
Speakers for Near Wall Placement
Speakers that are designed to be placed up against or very near the wall will typically have the woofers on the side of the cabinet near the floor with the mid-woofer / midrange up off the floor quite a bit on the front of the panel. This has to d...
Cables, a case history of an Agnostic
Alan, since the "Cable Cooker" uses a switching power supply, isn't it possible that this could become a source of both EMI and RFI ??? It is well known that switching supplies are notoriously "dirty" due to the spikes and glitches that they gener...
Cd storage..what's an audiophile to do?
I built a few CD racks using 1" x 6" shelving with a sheet backing. This is VERY easy to do and can be finished to match other materials in the room. With the dimensions that i used, they hold about 450 cd's each. I still need to build at least on...
Monoblocks did not work
Thanks for the clarification. What i wanted to say and what i said somehow didn't "jive". No more typing under medication for me... : ) Sean>
Software to give woofers a work-out
It's not so much the frequency range that is important, it's the amount of excursion that the driver has to make. As such, lower bass obviously requires greater excursion than higher frequencies. Playing something with continual low bass at high v...

Skip the bridging and go straight to bi-amping. While active biamplification is best, you can still get some gain by doing this passively. As you've noticed, most amps do not sound good when bridged. Sean>
Cables, a case history of an Agnostic
I've tried two burners. One did nothing as far as i could tell and the other made a very noticeable difference. The "good one" was a Mobie. While i know that Music Direct sells them, i think that Bob Bundus was able to find a better deal on the on...
VPI Record Cleaner
$250 for a used 16.5 is quite fair, especially if it's in good shape and you can see it operate. Sean>
Do the surrounds really need much power
It depends on what surround format your using. Dolby Pro Logic doesn't send much info to the surrounds and the surrounds are also bandwidth limited. Dolby Digital, DTS, etc... all have full bandwidth to every speaker with a greater amount of info ...

How are you running these amps ? Bi-amped ( vertical or horizontal ) or bridged ??? From the input that you've stated about power output per channel, i'm assuming bridged. For sake of clarity and those that may not know the different terms, vertic...
Cables, a case history of an Agnostic
I would venture to say that the "break in machine" might have had a lot to do with your experiences. Since you've already tried a pretty wide assortment of cables and never really noticed any major differences, the "break in machine" would be the ...
Priorities, who makes the rules anyway?
I hear ya and completely agree. While i have a Corvette Stingray in storage and a Harley, i typically drive a 1994 four cylinder Ford Tempo with a manual transmission in it. Glamorous, to say the least. Besides that, i have a rusted out Ford van t...
