Use of Ferrite Cores for EMI Reduction???
Twl, just running a "drain" aka "floating or telescoping ground" will alter impedance. I would therefore "assume" that putting ferrite over that would also alter it further. That is, at least within that small region where the ferrite was applied....
Wanna hear your soundstage walk around ???
HAHAHA.... Kind of amazing, isn't it ? It was almost like i had a pinpoint "ball of sonic energy" floating around the room on one of my systems. It was almost as if i could literally reach out and touch where the sound was emanating from it was so...
Am I the only one who thinks B&W is mid-fi?
The only thing that i will contribute to this "fiasco" is that i agree with a previous comment. That comment is that i think that the B&W "house sound" has changed quite noticeably over the years. Whether or not someone likes their earlier wor...
subwoofer setup problem
I agree with Karls. Depending on the mains and their roll-off slope, it is typically best to "underlap" than to overlap. This is due to the fact that the mains and sub(s) will sum their total output by the time the sound gets to your listening pos...
Are You Happy?
Don't get me wrong folks, i definitely DO think that digital red book CAN sound pretty darn good. Whether or not MOST digital based systems sound that way is another matter. I wouldn't have known the difference if i hadn't experienced the differen...
What's more important speakers or amplification?
No matter how good your source and amplification chain are, bad speakers can break you. No matter how good your speakers are, a bad source and amplification chain can break you. In the first example, you can have all of the detail, resolution, mus...

Adcom "B" stock amp into my NAD C340 integrated?
The Adcom sounds like it would be a temporary step from what you've posted. Rather than spend money on this, why don't you lay out a specific plan of attack. You can do this by listing what your goals are for this system and then what steps or com...
Cartridge Selection? Help
If you can post the effective mass of the arm and then list the mass of each cartridge and its' compliance rating individually, i can post what the resonance frequency "should" be according to theory. Of course, this will vary somewhat as there ar...
Are You Happy?
It's pretty simple. Most digital sounds "soul-less", is bright and glaring and lacks what many claim is not real or quantifiable: PRaT. As such, you might initally like the music on the recording, it's just that the reproduction of it isn't "music...
Contact Cleaner
Geeze, not only do sharks NOT get cancer, they are well lubricated and don't corrode. I guess we CAN learn something new everyday : ) Sean>
Is anyone in vinyl land familiar with ADC tonearms
Compliance has to do with the suspension of the cartridge. Think of the "compliance" of the cartridge as how stiff or "cushioned" the ride is in your car. Some transfer every bump in the road back to you while others let them go un-noticed.All car...
Is it OK to leave a tube preamp on all the time?
If you put a signal through a tube before it reaches operating temperature, you will know it. It sounds HORRIBLE. Having said that, once you turn on a tube set and the filaments begin to glow, you are ready to operate in well under one minute. Giv...
power cords and krell amps any suggestions?
Due to the high current draw, make sure that any power cords that you use are heavy in gauge and fit tightly into both the wall outlets and IEC jack. Keep in mind that heavy gauge conductors ( 12 gauge or better ) does not necessarily mean "big in...
what did I do? channel hiss in McCormack DNA 0.5.
You might have jarred the connection loose on an interconnect or the input jack on the amp. Not that uncommon. Do the basic troubleshooting procedures that are mentioned above and in other threads and try and track the problem down. Power amps sho...
