Who uses long interconnect like in dealers?
I typically look for VERY long runs of interconnects and cut them down / reterminate them myself. Since most people aren't using long runs of interconnects, the market for great lengths just isn't there and the seller ends up taking a bath when th...
Why go with active preamp?
If your CD player has a volume control on it and can easily drive your power amp into saturation, i see no reason to go active in a case like yours. Sean>
InfiniCap Vs AuriCap
I agree / disagree with both Sportinlife and Herman. Personally, i think that either the Infinicap or Auricap is a more neutral and better sounding cap than the Solen. Which one you like better in that specific piece of gear or your system is a pe...
How did you hear about Audiogon?
Another "good" name for the forums might be "Comparing Notes". Get it ??? : ) Sean>
Home HiFi better than Live?
I agree with a lot of what Pbb mentioned. Many bands simply aren't capable of playing live with the intensity that is presented in their studio efforts. As such, this is not only a let-down in terms of sonics, it is a let down in terms of overall ...
How did you hear about Audiogon?
I found Audiogon somewhere around 7 years ago while doing a search for used audio gear. From what i can remember, it had just gone on-line at that point in time. That is, in the current format that most people recognize Agon in today. I did not be...
Cleaning & polishing speakers & gear
S7Horton: What do you put on speaker cabinets that are 20+ years old in order to keep them from drying out and preserve what's left of their natural beauty ? If paste wax is your "end all" answer, what brands do you recommend and how often should ...

"Z" did a very nice job of summing things up. Hats off to him for contributing a very concise and useful post.As a general rule, most MC ( moving coil ) cartridges work best with arms of medium to high mass and most MM ( moving magnet ) or MI ( mo...
What kind of power wakes up electrostatic speakers
I don't know about the Bel Canto's or Spectron's but the PS HCA-2 does not respond very linearly as impedance is changed. Both frequency response and distortion are effected as impedance varies. Sean>

Why is there so much Rowland gear for sale?
Same thing goes for a rush of Pass gear listed within the last 24 hours. People are either moving onto other / newer gear or hurting for cash. Sean>
What kind of power wakes up electrostatic speakers
From what i've been told, both Sound Labs & Martin Logan ( as companies and manufacturers ) have ordered or already have the new Parasound JC-1's in their reference systems. As i mentioned in another thread before, if i had the money, i'd have...
Anyone using a Marchand crossover???
I'm using a Marchand XM9-3 Deluxe and have no complaints about it. Like anything else, it is built to a price point and can be upgraded as one feels the need. It does have some nice features ( such as the "blend" circuit ) that other crossovers la...
VMPS RM40 better than Dunlavy IVa?
Not having heard both speakers but being familiar with the designs, i'm thinking that there would be a marked difference in presentation. For one thing, you're talking about an all dynamic driver system ( Dunlavy ) against a hybrid ribbon / dynami...
