20th Century Composers
Before trying to respond to your post, please define what you mean "most influential composers of the 20th Century". Do you mean composers who were born after 1900, or are you including composers who were born in the 19th century but lived into th...
Looking for additional cable ideas...
Hi, Mike:I recently auditioned both the Goertz MI2 (copper) and the Goertz Python (in bi-wire sets), and had a definite preference for the MI2 over the Python. I bought the bi-wire copper MI2 (Veracity) for my main speakers, and the MI1 for the ce...
Audio and Wine?
I was fortunate to live in Europe during the late 1960's and early 1970's, and my former father-in-law was the procurement officer for NATO/SHAPE Headquarters in Belgium. In that role, he got to know a man who owned the largest wine distributorshi...
What pets hang out with Audiophiles?
My 16 year old cat always curls up beside me, or sits on my lap, whenever I settle down to listen to music. She is almost totally deaf now, and so does not care about the volume or what I listen to (my wife should be so tolerant...).
is there really a need for two subs?
Well, as always, we have achieved complete unanimity of thought on the topic under discussion... (grin). Sean's comments are valid: there is no "need" to have two subs, unless your personal criteria include getting the best performance from your s...
My highest praise - for Audiogon
Nice comments, everyone, and I send kudos to my online friend, Trelja, for starting this thread. I've been frequenting A-gon for about 3 years now, and with one minor exception a year or so ago, I have had uniformly positive experiences with every...
speaker cable and interconnect different brands?
It's useful to bear in mind that only a handful of cable manufacturers actually make their own wire, or even assemble their own cable products. Most of the wire is purchased from a small number of suppliers, and many of the cables are now assemble...
What Toslink is better than Radio Shack?
About two years ago, one of the major audio mags had a review on Toslink cables -- sorry, but I can't remember which mag. Based on their subjective test results, they said that the Monster Cable Toslink cable was one of the best at any price, and ...
Another UPS oops thread
Hi, Sharri:I got "cured" from using UPS COD about 9 months ago when I made a COD sale of a pair of subwoofers to a fellow in Texas. UPS delivered the subs, and got the COD payment (cashier's check from buyer, made out to me) but somehow couldn't "...
Need Help with Interconnects for my tube system..
Since you already own the Alpha-Core Goertz speaker cables, you know their product line. I suggest you seriously consider their Triode Quartz 2 (TQ2) interconnects, which have a MSRP of $186 per 1-meter pair. The original TQ1 was developed specifi...
Krell Showcase or Bryston SP 1.7
Hi, Roger:I can't speak to the Krell, but I own the Bryston SP-1 and think it is excellent piece of equipment. The new SP1.7 is simply an upgraded SP-1, with analog inputs for DVD-A / SACD, support for 6-channel and 7-channel surround, and 96 kHz ...
What companies have gone above and beyond?
My two nominees are Bryston and Vandersteen.
Better magazine, Stereophile or Absolute Sound
Some years ago, both mags had their merits, and I subscribed to both for a long time. If voting today, I'd have to give the clear nod to TAS, although neither mag is exactly free from the influences of its advertisers.
Which sites do you go for music reviews?
Downbeat Magazine, which has been the definitive publication on jazz for nearly 50 years, has a good Web site that contains CD reviews. Here's the link: www.downbeat.com
Flamenco Jazz
You might start with Chano Dominguez. If you have not seem him perform, then rent the DVD of "Calle 54", the 2002 Grammy winner for Best Latin Jazz.
