Burmester CD 03 sampler
I have all 3 of the demo CD's, and I like the music on #2 best. Good to see a post from you again, BTW.Scott C-
Stylast: Yay or Nay
Also been using Stylast (and LAST) for many years, on a variety of different cartridges, and never had any problem. The key is to apply the liquid only to the stylus itself.
I had a spider crawl in my preamp A Problem?
If the spider didn't didn't get fried, then no harm was done to the preamp either.
Vandersteen 5a tuning cd
Try calling Vandersteen Audio and ask to buy a copy of the CD.
3 Channel Amp - 1 power supply?
Based on your system, I think you should instead focus on how much power you will need to adequately drive your ET LFT's. I vaguely recall that they are not terribly efficient (84-85 db?), so they will need a fair amount of juice to play at high v...
Help with cartridge selection
At the $800 price point, there are several good recommendations above. However, if I were going to buy an $800 cartridge today (assuming MSRP), the choice would be a simple one: Shelter 501 Mk2. Really outstanding performance for the money.
Which Totem speakers
My advice is to buy the best speaker you can afford without regard to whether you'll need a subwoofer. Subs are nice (I have two in my system), but they can't make up for a speaker that lacks good mid-range qualities. Further, even good subs are m...
spkr cable: copper, silver or combo/hybrid?
If your budget is limited to under $200 for a bi-wire pair of cables (presumably 8-10 feet long), then you should audition the Kimber 4VS or 8VS. If you can find a set of used Kimber 4TC, then they should also be within your budget and will offer ...
Mono block or vertical Bi amps for Vandersteen 2Ce
I have owned almost all of the Vandy models except the Model 5's, and based on my experience with owning both the 2Ci and 2Ce models, I'm not sure that I recommend the expense of monoblocks or bi-amping for the 2Ce. The 2Ce provides for bi-wiring,...
Need Help Choosing A Subwoofer
Well, the new Outlaw sub has gotten excellent reviews, and it sells for about $550 as I recall. The sub was designed for Outlaw by Hsu. You should also consider the small subs made by Paradigm and PSB, and for about $800-900, you can also get the ...
I want to try a MM
You should also consider the Shelter 501 and the ClearAudio Virtuoso Wood. Both offer excellent performance for the money. I have a Grado Reference in my analog system, and altho' their tonal characteristics are a bit different (the Grado sounds w...
VPI Scoutmaster questions.........
FWIW, Harry Pearson (editor of TAS) chose both the VPI TNT HR-X and the Super Scoutmaster for "Golden Ear" awards. Harry raved about the performance of the "Super", noting that as he improved the quality of the phono stages and preamps used with t...
Choice Rega P5 or VPI Scout?
I have owned and heard many, many TT's over the past 40 years. In my opinion, the VPI Scoutmaster is one of the finest TT's ever made that audiophiles with "normal" budgets can actually afford. The $3000 full-price package includes a great TT/tone...
Transparency/Nuetrality: Creek,Bryston,Musical F
I've heard all of these integrated amps, and it's true that each has somewhat different sonic signatures. If I were going to buy an integrated amp today -- at least one with a "reasonable" pricetag (by high-end standards) -- I'd buy the new Brysto...
