Anyone heard of 'Clearview' from Mapleshade??
If you don't require extensive shielding, the interconnects are a pretty good value. I have not heard the speaker cables, but a couple of audio acquaintances were unimpressed, citing an absence of bass with those cables in place. I have used, and ...
Why would you risk it?
That's a good sentiment, and I actually got nervous when I saw that on the news, because I live close to Philadelphia and was expecting a couple of audio components that were being shipped UPS - luckily they hadn't gone out yet. If a product still...
Miss your audio when traveling?
I think it might depend on where I'm going. Business trips to boring industrial parks in other American cities? Of course I miss it then. On a real family vacation, not so much.
More reports-How many corrupted CD-R's with time?
That's why most mid to large companies back up their data to tape. As it turns out, CD-R is not a very reliable or long lasting data archival medium, whether that data be music or source code. SO maybe those DAT machines weren't such a bad idea af...
What's under your amp?
Amthanh, that rocks! Pun intended. I actually prefer to put my stuff on slabs of maple whenever possible. What is under the cabinet? My situation is such that my listening room sits on a concrete slab.
What is the best DAC ever made?
I believe that a German company builds a $60k DAC - if there were any correltation between cost and I'd quality I'd hope that one was the best, although we all know how that often is not the case.
Anyone plan on driving from east coast to midwest?
Uppermidfi, that sounds like the plot for a Jason Statham direct to DVD movie. I smell a sequel already...
Krell SACD Standard problem
Well, mine is on its way back to Krell. My local dealer and Krell actually handled the whole affair very nicely, and I'll basically get back a unit with a new transport at no charge. So on the customer service front I have no complaints.
Krell SACD Standard problem
Was anyone able to satiusfactorily resolve these issues? I just received a Krell SACD standard and it essentially barfed on the first disc I gave it. Best of all it sent a square wave through the system as it went down. I find it disturbing that K...
A simple question from the new guy ....
As you get better and better analog equipment, the cleanliness and condition of the record become the big factor in what accounts for and how much distortion there is. Obviously ticks and pops caused by surface impurities are the most obvious, but...
What speakers match well with Atma Sphere?
Coincident Partial Eclipse or Victory (if used) would fall nicely into your price range. They are fairly sensitive and have very OTL friendly impedances. I believe Tonian Labs also makes some high impedance models, but I am not very familiar with ...
Philips stopped transports?
The article was referring to cd-only transports, ans yes very few are still manufacturing them today. Given that the majority of transports go into mass market products which are more focused on stuff like DVD video and compatiblity with the vario...
Help a vinyl-phile with a digital upgrade
How about a Marantz 8260? Then you also get the option of SACD. I think they can still be had new for around a grand.
Simaudio: Stellar or Equinox???
I haven't heard the Stellar yet. I think it is an assumption that the dedicated, single format box can offer slight improvements in sound quality because the overall architecture is simpler and you can really optimize the analog output stage and D...
Simaudio: Stellar or Equinox???
Glad to see you're still at it! First of all, I think either way you're going to have excellent results. Of course, I may be a little biased as I own a SImaudio CDP. Anyway, I think it may come down to budget, and how fanatical you are about your ...
