Wood blocks underneath components?? snake oil?
Newbee, the reason I thought of frequency response accross the audible spectrum is that I am not sure how else to quanitfy an audible change at the listening position. I suspect it is this difficulty to quantify that brings everyone back around to...
Wood blocks underneath components?? snake oil?
This type of "discussion" comes up a lot with regard to cables as well. Is there a way we could implement a 2 step approach to determine whether the wood blocks are making a difference? For example, could we use a real time analyzer to look at the...
Help Me Explain Power Cables to my Guitar Friends
Crazy4Blues, I'd have to agree with the_kid - guitarists are all over the map when it comes to this stuff. Since you play guitar, I am sure you have heard of Eric Johnson. He is known for going to extremes that would make even the tweakiest audiop...
Thiel 1.6 vs. 2.4 vs. 3.6 using NAD c372
Overall NAD and Thiel 2.4s are a great bang for the buck system in that room, and might even embarass some of the more pompous audio jewelry systems out there. Regarding the 3.6s, I am running the CS 3.6s in a small room, but I would advise agains...
help with a lush 50 watt+ amp
The Cary V-12 monos might give you what you want. I use a Cary tube preamp, and find that it gives my otherwise lean system that extra bit of flah on the bone that it needs. I don't know why it is such a big deal that you might like a warmer sound...
what is an audiophile ?
Actaully Throman's description also fits guitarists quite well. (I am one, so I'm allowed to say that). Actually I've always considered it to mean someone who is interested in music and music technology within the consumer audio realm, whether tha...

Passion or obsession
Audio probably isn't the only reason some people spend way too much time in front of the computer. (I'll leave that up to the imagination - paging Harry Palms, is there a Harry Palms in the building?) I think by definition the transition to obsess...
Guitar player? , What model do you own or play?
Guitar: Early nineties Black Fender Strat with EMG active pickups. Bass: PBC custom 6 String.
All Rega system
My first system was also all Rega - Brio amp, Planet CDP, and Jura Speakers. Very simple, and made good music for < $3k. From my experience this is a good choice - it seems that Rega products are almost intended to use together. Synergy.
Does LAST Preservative DULL sound?
To Markd51's point, there have been some comments in various forums before about certain cartridge manufacturers not recommending it because "crud" could build up on the stylus, and over time, sully the cartridge internals. I believe that was ment...
Let's add a Spell Check to Audiogon
Theduke, and the best part is, no spell checker will ever catch that one. Someone asked me about the "base" of the turntable I had recently listed and I wasn't sure how to respond, that error is so frequent.
TAS review of Krell SACD:why?
Overhang, It is difficult for me to comment on the differences in sound because I only had my unit for brief period of time before it failed. What I CAN day is that with its new drive, this is an excellent sonic performer for both redbook and SACD...
TAS review of Krell SACD:why?
Krell has brought the unit back into production. The transport issues were with a Philips transport that was pretty much a disaster. One a new OEM drive was available they were able to resume production, and have been retrofitting earlier models w...
Please, DON'T TOUCH
There are also a lot of opportunities for kids to fry or phyically injure themselves, depending on the type of gear you have. I'd recommend stashing it away.
