Can someone help me choose speakers
Have you tried/heard any of Linn's floorstanders? Some of the older models (the 5140, for instance, or the Ninka--both available used for great prices), have incredible pace and rhythm, and sound better to me than their current line of extremely "...
Rich; organic true balanced amp w good detail $6k
Sutts, you should also consider Ayre amps, fully balanced and lots of power for the low end, yet gorgeous "tubelike" sound. I have owned only the V3 but was extremely impressed with its performance on a no. of different speakers. Now I use the ARC...
Need Speakers at least 4 feet high
Springbok, I'm glad you are considering my suggestion of platforms. Indeed, I have ordered platforms from Timbernation on three occasions and they are SUPERB. I highly recommend this builder. His products are beautifully crafted, with or without s...
Brand preference and opinions
Shsu is obviously a joker.
Need Speakers at least 4 feet high
Buy some thick Mapleshade or the like amp or speaker platforms (I have a couple that are 4" thick) and put the speakers on them? I do this with my ProAc D25's because of a spongy carpet and they work well. But really, the chair has got to go. That...

Personal CD player evolution
My very first CD player was a beautiful walnut sided piece by Kyocera circa 1985.Then went to CAL Delta transport with Alpha DAC, followed by CAL Tempest II. Tried one of the first DAC's by Theta around that time as well. Moved onto Meridian--500 ...
Top 5 Entry-level audiophile speakers $1500-2000?
Hi Aqua, as a fellow DC audiophile, I thought I'd chime in on some of the local dealers. My favorite audio shops in the DC area are Deja Vu, which has already been mentioned; Sound Images on Rt. 50 in Falls Church; and Gifted Listener Audio in Cen...
Unhappy with tubes so which transistor amp?
Try an Ayre amp if you want magical midrange, authoritative bass, and absolutely no glare or harshness whatsoever. I owned an Ayre V3 (their smallest amp, 100 watts) and now own the ARC VT100 Mk III and love both. Sound is amazingly similar, esp w...
We are normal unlike the rest eh??? ha ha
Obviously the REAL crazies are into tubes, vinyl and horns. Did anyone ID some of the gear these guys have? How about that suspended counterweighted stand that can keep the music playing through an earthquake??
Dissapointed buyer, item malfunctions experience?
Viridian, Squirrel et al., you are missing my point. I have never been anything less than reasonable and fair with anyone on this site and those who have bought from or sold to me can and have attested to that. My point simply is that Audiogon doe...
Dissapointed buyer, item malfunctions experience?
It's nice you all appear willing to refund payment and shipping immediately if something malfunctions after it has arrived at the buyer--but we are NOT dealers who have an obligation to refund and accept the unit back! I would file a claim with th...
Mini-monitor suggestions for a Blue Circle CS
ProAc Reference Tablette or 1SC monitors.
Help with Integrated Amp Choice
There are just so many possibilities, and you don't mention your budget. But my favorite integrated is the Ayre AX-7e, sells for about $2000 used here, $3000 new. Can power even Maggies, solid state without etch, glare or overanalyticalness.
Vacation Home System
Just bought my niece a system on eBay for under $500 that consists of: Kyocera DA-610 CD player, Kyocera R-451 tuner/amp (actually a receiver but they call it a "tuner/amp"), small Mirage monitors on Target stands, Speltz anticables, and Mapleshad...
