Report on Harbeths vs. Vandersteens
Thanks for the link to that very interesting thread. As an owner of both the older more "romantic" ProAc's and the newer possibly more "analytical" ProAc's, I found the comparisons and opinions in that thread informative. Seems there are a lot of ...
Report on Harbeths vs. Vandersteens
My ears seem to be similar to yours in terms of what kinds of speakers and sound signature I prefer. I have always loved the "British sound" and after B&W (all kinds of models from the 80's and 90's) and Spendor (BC-3) have found my way to Pro...
What song is your fav.Emmylou cut???
Oh yeah her duets with Gram bring tears and shivers==esp Love Hurts. But lately my fave cut is Bang the Drum Slowly about burying her father in Arlington Cemetery as I did in 2000. Her version of Neil Young's Wrecking Ball is incredible also, if y...
Linn -- one generation ago
I have always loved the Linn 5140 slim floorstanding speakers--predecessors of the Espek I think. They sound great even without the active cards you can get for them. I often see them used on this site. Also the Ikemi is a phenomenal CD player but...
What are my options for voltage regulation?
I ended up with the PS Audio Premier because the dealer gave me a good price on a trade in of my BPT and I couldn't get a comparable deal on an Exact Power unit. I just hooked up the Premier last night and I really like it! It's much smaller and l...
Monitors vs. Floorstanders - What an eye opener
The ProAc Response 1SC monitors I've had for a few years now continue to amaze me on all kinds of music. I also have a REL sub (Storm III) with them, but they sound fine without it on all but the bassiest of music.
Help My Krell amp is too big.
How about the new Ayre MX-R monoblocks--only 18 3/4 inches long. From the Ayre website: Dimensions11" W x 18.75" D x 3.75" H(28cm x 48cm x 9.5cm)But probably too beautiful to hide in a cabinet! There is a new review in Stereophile.
Noisy earphones
I have found the shure IEM's to be quieter when exercising--but they all have some issues this way. Go to www.head-fi.org and read till next week about this issue and what people have found and preferred. At the gym, my shure 4c are the quietest I...
Tube issues Mumbo jumbo?
Email Charlie at Vacuum Tube Valley--he will answer you right away, even on weekends, and knows EVERYTHING. I just ordered a ($$$) quad of NOS Sylvania 6SN7's from him for my Cary SLP98.
ECD1 similar cd players
I bought Samuel's ECD-1 DAC and the sound from any source I connect to it (primarily a Squeezebox) is fantastic. I used to own the EMC-1 (non-upsampling) and think the ECD-1 sounds like the EMC-1--very analogue-like. Like someone said, a cross bet...
Mapleshade & Monarchy ........?
Oh yes, another idea for "interesting" would be to buy one of the many versions of the Moon Audio cables Drew sells. He has Silver Dragon, Black Dragon and Blue Dragon with various terminators available. His work and service are first rate.
Mapleshade & Monarchy ........?
Another "interesting" cable is the Speltz Anti-Cables. They look like the Mapleshades to me but have no idea how they sound. Many people have tried and love them.
I need a 20 or 25 foot headphone cable
Drew at Moon Audio will either make you a Senn cable that is long enough for your purposes, or sell you a headphone extension cable. He makes 'em in three varieties I think and they are all of excellent quality. Not a long wait either. http://www....
Multi-format player that sounds as good as Opus 21
Linn Unidisk 2.1.
What are my options for voltage regulation?
Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to go with the PS Audio Premier, it's more compact than what I'm using now (BPT-2 Ultra--HEAVY at 60 lbs) and provides voltage regulation which is apparently what sent my tube headphone amp off into hummmmm-...
