Oomph or pressure?
One final point.  It will take a very good active linestage to surpass the Emia/Intact Audio autoformer.  In my case, the Emotive Epifania started out as an excellent sounding preamp, but I have tweaked it to death over the past 10 years by swappi...
Oomph or pressure?
Charles, I think you got the names confused.  The active preamp is the Emotive Audio Epifania so nothing inappropriate in its name.I should emphasize that the Emia autofromer is very good by any standard.  I am somewhat splitting hairs by focusing...
Oomph or pressure?
I have an Intact Audio autoformer that uses the same autoformer as your Emia (assuming you have the copper version, not the silver).  And I also have an Emotive Audio Epifania linestage (modified) which uses a single 12B4 tube per channel.  Coinci...
What is considered a "standard" percentage of devaluation per year foor high end speakers?
Buy good vintage gear and you can enjoy appreciation, not depreciation.
ATMA SPHERE SCHEMATIC for a UV-1 M/M.......
+2 Swampwalker.  The thing that surprises me most is how generous Ralph has been in trying to accommodate a troublesome owner.  Ralph’s emails in this thread contain enough information for anyone experienced with tube preamps to build a close cous...
Galibier Stelvio II, Durand Kairos with Lyra Kleos (HEAVEN)
Nice report Luis, and welcome to the Galibier community.  I have a Galibier Gavia with Triplanar VII/Benz LP and have been very pleased with it going on 13 years now.  The Stelvio II should keep you happy for a long time.  Thom Mackris is indeed g...
Racks made of wood
My turntable is on a Sound Anchors turntable stand which I highly recommend, but it is steel.  I also have a Box Furniture rack that I use for my preamps and it sounds and looks very nice.  I am sure a turntable would sound just fine on it too but...
Mundorf Silver Gold Hook up wire
I tried Mundorf Silver/Gold hookup wire in a preamp and found it to be too lean in the bass; however, this was the 24g version and you would probably be using 18g or 15.5g for the internal speaker wiring.  The thicker wire might very well sound be...
Where are Moerch arms sold?
Lots of talk about problems but few details.  I had a DP-6 for several years and was very pleased with it.  I never ran into any problems but if I had I would have contacted the dealer from whom I bought it.  That's one of the advantages in dealin...
Audio Research Reference 5SE modifications/bypassing output caps
I agree with Atmasphere that bypassing a coupling cap results in smearing and a generally incoherent sound.  This is especially true when the coupling cap is a high quality cap like a V-Cap CuTF (my favorite).  And this is also true even when the ...
Tri-Planar & Customer Service Excellence
Nice report Mike.  I bought a Triplanar VII UII over 10 years ago and I still love it.  The Triplanar is an excellent design with a high standard of build quality.  While I have never needed service or advice from Tri Mai, it's good to know he goe...
Racks: Box Funriture vs Sistrum
My Box Furniture rack is on a carpeted floor so I am using the aluminum cone footers.  In my case, the rack makes my equipment sound more lively, not less, compared to the solid wood furniture I used before.  That is probably the biggest differenc...
Interested in Members' Experiences with Rectifier Tube Rolling in Modwright PS 9.0 and 9.9
You need to try a RCA 5R4GY with light brown base.  That is my clear favorite of all rectifier tubes I have tried in my preamps.  They are readily available on EBay for $20 or so and they last a long time.  Don't be concerned about the maximum rat...
Need some help soldering Binding posts.
I have a high wattage iron I use mainly for Cardas binding posts.  I think it is 80 watts but don't recall exactly.  After the iron is fully heated up, I place the tip firmly against the outside of the post while the wire I intend to attach to it ...
$20K to spend on speakers…. . wait! There’s a catch!
I like JOND's suggestion too.  A set of custom high efficiency speakers from Deja Vu Audio with vintage horns and drivers would be just the ticket.
