Is there a remedy? A buzz is usually a bad driver or a wire touching the speaker cone/element. Try to isolate if you can.
Audio gear, sonic quality when you listen in less (or non-) focused ways I only have two types, critical and non-critical. This can often be the same system or a lesser system for non-critical.
Ultimate stereo nightmare With a complex system it's always best to have full access to the back of your gear. Best you can do now is try to hook up a minimum system configuration and see if you can get the lost channel back. Most likely a wonky RCA connector or cable.
Quicksilver with Walnut Faceplates at Aural HiFi Quicksilver is a high value proposition. I ran my Mid Monos with a Zesto Leto preamp and I could not believe how good those amps sounded. Totally not out of place with a high end preamp. 100% This.
Headphones vs speakers…. It takes a really good system to beat a decent set of headphones. I'm not sure a set of Totems are up to that task. If you are putting together a really good headphone system, it's going to take serious bucks to get better quality out of a loudspe...

Why does pulling out main speakers from wall improve sound? Simple answer: Because they are designed to work that way. Mostly due to the increased use of subwoofers the speakers no longer need the bass reinforcement of a near wall or near corner set-up.

Help me make sense of this - Midfi system sounding better hifi. If it was me I wouldn't feed the 802s with a Krell, I'd want something much warmer sounding.
room size question. Yes, most loudspeakers today need to be pulled out from the wall. 3 feet is a good starting place. A 12X12 room is big enough to get a great sound stage but you'll have to work to get the best set-up.
New to vinyl question Set the tracking at 2 grams, and play a Stanley Clark album. Hendrix and Cream are not the reference standard for good sounding records.
System set up in front of corner Vs flat wall - acoustical issues? Corner layouts usually work pretty good, even better if you move the speakers forward and the TV back.
To Tube or not to Tube, that is the question To tell you the truth, your Sphinx is getting you 99% there. Tube gear takes a few more bucks to own and operate and you'll need some really nice tube friendly loudspeakers to go with the tube amps. My favorite tube set-ups featured Triangle floor...
Best Basic CD Player (no SACD, USB, etc.) There are good players in every price range. Look on Amazon, a few very affordable name brand players that will sound really good.
How long does it take a decent quality speaker to "wear out"? Loudspeaker materials usually don't last forever but it's hard to wear out most speakers. |
