Power Conditioning on the Cheap
From your text it sounds you already decided you want to buy a Power Conditioner. My questions is ... is there something wrong / missing with your current sound that pointed you in this direction as being the solution? It could be that maybe if y...
An electrical engineer on how power cables can impact sound quality
Your audio location may suffer from an overdose of electrical interference noise, from wifi, GSM, babyphones or what have you, maybe ’Earth rays’. First off, these are all far outside the audio spectrum and are inaudible. Maybe a PC or laptop in t...
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
I don’t think many people will argue if there are / are not sound differences between amps, given a certain minimum price level. We can quickly agree there are ... who knows simply because some amps may deliberately have been built to not sound 10...
The problem with streaming
The title of this thread should have read ’The problem with bad pressings’. Maybe to some it is ’part of the hobby’, but the mere fact that pressings can be bad and that one has to search for a good one already is reason enough to me to stay far ...
It comes with a balance knob?!?! I'll take it!
Lol, I remember my first high end pre amp ... it had just a few knobs, as was the trend, but it still had a balance knob. I was used to balance knobs that would ’move’ the sound from full left to full right. This one didn’t. I thought I heard a te...
Burn in period
Undoubtedly there are people who can hear their equipment or cables break in. To me however it stays a mysterious phenomenon. Take a cable ... it has no arrows on, it has no direction. And audio is an AC signal so there’s no direction there eithe...
How much “suspension of disbelief do you need?”
Most records sound way better than the live performance.
How Big of a Difference?
I'm not surprised you didn't hear a difference between the USB cables ... that's because there IS no difference. Any decent USB cable brings the 0's and 1's to the other end perfectly fine without errors. With speaker cable there could be audible...
What makes the biggest difference in sound quality?
The four items you mentioned, interconnects, speaker cables, power cords, fuses, all are passive components. They can’t add anything to the audio signal, they can only act as a filter and take part of the signal away. Fuses and power cords are no...
Audiogon resolutions for 2022 - #1 less exaggeration when it comes to system changes
I suggest a couple less categories to make them easier to remember: ++ Everyone clearly hears an improvement + Only the one who paid for it hears a difference o No one hears a difference - The sound deteriorated Then to describe the sound at ...
CDP or Transport and DAC? Recomendations?
In that price range I bet most players will have a good DAC built in. The obvious difference is with separate components you can choose both in stead of one. But this only helps if you have the opportunity to listen to different transports and DAC...
If you have a CD Player, you need to do this periodically...
Also don't forget to protect your player from direct sunlight.
Why Are People So Concerned About How Others Spend Their Money?
I really have my doubts with these $1940,- cable elevators: https://www.likehifi.de/news/audionet-gauss-paramagnetische-klangverbesserung-fuer-audiophile-hifi-anlagen/
Is Pretty Good Good Enough? Listening Habits In The World Of Streaming Services.
It's interesting you 'miss' something with the high res streams since they typically are of higher quality (24bit/192kHz) than CD (16bit/44.1kHz). If you hear a difference (very few people can ... do the test over here https://www.npr.org/section...
Better Sounding Systems, Objectivists or Subjectivists?
Who says ’objectivists’ don’t listen? As an electronics scientist I consider myself an ’objectivist’ in the sense that I’m not a ’believer’ in cryogenic treated fuses and super expensive cables that after a 100 hour run in time magically improve t...
