A Question About Time Alignment Don't move your head even one inch while listening or your whole time alignment will be off.
What cables to use. What brand and type are your powered speakers?
Cable burn in I put my cables in the oven to burn them in. Slow cooking, 3 hours at 90 degrees C, turns out to give the best results. Amazing sound stage, deep lows and warm yet crisp highs. Sounds even better with my eyes closed and after 2 glasses of wine. O...
How many people do you think have the same DAC, amplifier, and speakers Same DAC? My guess is ... about as many as there are sold? If you meant the same DAC AND same amp AND same speakers ... given the amount of brands and types I'd indeed say 4.
Active Speakers Better? No, per Michael Borresen The fun fact is that most studio monitors, i.e. the speakers the producers and sound engineers listen to while the music is being made, are active (near field) speakers.
Upgrade path question. Upgrade analog or turn to digital? Get yourself a Bleusound Node and add it to your rig. It takes virtually no space, brings all your music under your fingertip, and you can still play analog when you like.
Does creating a loom in cables in a system make a significant difference? I’m one of the lucky guys that doesn’t hear a difference between cables. I use ’standard’ copper cables all around, does that count as a ’loom’? I use bi-wiring with my stereo set and bi-amping with my 5.1 set. Couldn’t hear the difference with ...

ETHERNET CABLES Jabbaman, can you explain how come non-audio data is transferred over a normal cat6 cable without error, but only the audio bits and bytes get corrupted?
ETHERNET CABLES @dpcoffey Great to see someone who talks some digital sense. I fully concur, never understood how 'audio grade' ethernet cable, or USB cable can make a difference. All other data is transferred error free ... bar audio? "I did notice a sonic diff...
Dedicated NUC/Nucleaus vs shared PC (w Fiber Media Converter connected to Endpoint) I've tried both, a dedicated fan less PC and a normal PC. I could not hear any difference. Even if a music player is the only running app, Windows still runs a plethora of background tasks. I would not worry about that. Besides, any 'dedicated' st...
NAD M23 Stereo Amplifier: Best Amp Ever Bench Tested?!? Wait ... I thought for all non-objectivists measurements don't care?
You want a DAC that sounds *different.* What factor helps you find it? When will it be *different* enough? I'd say, install the free 'Equalizer APO' on your PC / laptop and use it as your digital source for a while, feeding your current DAC. You can now experiment with changing the sound spectrum with unlimited freq...
Its not vinyl I have no idea what you’re talking about ... I've always enjoyed digital sources more than vinyl.
Does a turntable make a DRAMATIC difference? The only function of a turntable is to rotate your disk at exactly 33 1/3 rpm. I assume you already have low wow, flutter and rumble. If so, how do you think it could further improve the sound? |
