Attention to anyone on Texas Gulf Coast
I live in Houston and have made hotel reservations in Arlington (Dallas area), in case it looks like a Cat. 3+/close hit to Houston. I must say, after the recent debacle in New Orleans, most folks I know here take this one very seriously.
does anybody still listen
I've got well over 4,000 LPs, and while (needless to say) some get listened to more than others, every weekend I find myself browsing the shelves and picking out one or two I've not listened to in quite a while - - years, in most cases. Like Jepen...
My son and the Alban Berg String Quartet
Well - at least he has excellent taste when it comes to chamber groups. Does he have a favorite recording to recommend?
another vinyl shipping question
Lousyreeds - It is primarily - but not exclusively - a question of aesthetics. Condition of the cover does affect the value of the record. And an in-tact cover will afford greater protection for the LP inside: a cover with a long split along the b...
another vinyl shipping question
The reason is to prevent splits in the cover. If the LP is left *inside* the cover, it may shift a bit during transit - and if the shift is violent enough (as it would be if the shipping box were dropped or otherwise roughly handled) the LP can cu...
CD Jewel cases - Over 20 years and no improvement
The cardboard, "wallet" style CD containers are the best, in my opinion. But - - - they cost quite a bit more to manufacture than the ubiquitous (and crappy) plastic ones. It's all about $$$$ !!
Can't tell if LP's are stereo or mono from ads
My experience is the same as Narrod's - I've bought heaps of LPs on eBay and here (including a very fine copy of *Hatari* from Narrod) - - -- never had any problems figuring out if the LP was mono or stereo.
Where do you find new music?
Sirius Satellite Radio (Pure Jazz 72) has introduced me to quite a number of contemporary new jazz releases. The most recent acquisition (based upon introduction via Sirius) is *Exploration* - by the Grachan Moncur III Octet - superb cd!!
How Big is Your Music Collection
LPs - 4,400cds - 1500cassettes - 400r-2-r - 125SACD/DVD/DVA, etc., etc. - zero!
Other Hobbies?
Underwater photography - gets me away from my listening room, when I need a break.
Vintage English record cleaner?
As Slipknot1 indicates, you're probably thinking of Keith Monks machine. The Keith Monks RCM is still available - - - although the price is pretty steep: about $1800.00 the last time I checked (as I recall, anyway).
What music would you like at your funeral?
St. James Infirmary - - sung by Jack Teagarden.
How many records do you own?
Over 4,000 (that's the number at which I stopped counting when packing up the collection for a *big move* last November. (My back still hurts!) That number includes the first LP I bought back in '62. I accumulated LPs, more or less steadily, thru ...
Apple or PC?
Use PC's at work, but been a Mac user at home since '94. On my 3rd PowerBook - great machine/OS. For the needs you describe, get a Mac and don't look back. You'll be very, very happy with it.
