Up great MMF-9 You can adjust the VTA on the Project Carbon arm. This may be accomplished by loosening the two (2) Allen screws on the back of the pillar that supports the tonearm. Instructions for doing so are contained on page 11 of the instruction manual that...
Cartride in December Bravo! And Merry Christmas to you!!
Large Classical Record Dealers I've had excellent experience with Jerry Canter's "Classical Collector" service - www.classicalcollector.com. Fair grading/decent prices. On Audiogon there are a number of very fine classical vinyl sellers - notably Recordron and Orest1. There are...
Tonearm for Sota Saphire I've got a 20 month old Sapphire mated to a Graham 2.1 arm (ceramic wand). Cart. is a Helikon Mono (this is my dedicated mono rig). Been completely happy with it (although I should've gotten the 2.2 - - will probably do that upgrade next year).
Popping Sound From TT I agree with Dan_ed. Also, if you're using a felt mat you might try something else - I switched from felt to a Ringmat on one tt and a Herbie's mat on another - - both helped reduce static charges quite a bit.
The Nitty Gritty Record Cleaner?? I've had a NG 2.5 since 1986 and have been quite happy with it. Had to send it back to Nitty Gritty about 5 years ago for a new motor - original crapped out - but that was after many years of heavy use. I do agree with Nsgarch: it *is* a bit on th...
Attention to anyone on Texas Gulf Coast I live in Houston and have made hotel reservations in Arlington (Dallas area), in case it looks like a Cat. 3+/close hit to Houston. I must say, after the recent debacle in New Orleans, most folks I know here take this one very seriously.
does anybody still listen I've got well over 4,000 LPs, and while (needless to say) some get listened to more than others, every weekend I find myself browsing the shelves and picking out one or two I've not listened to in quite a while - - years, in most cases. Like Jepen...
My son and the Alban Berg String Quartet Well - at least he has excellent taste when it comes to chamber groups. Does he have a favorite recording to recommend?
another vinyl shipping question Lousyreeds - It is primarily - but not exclusively - a question of aesthetics. Condition of the cover does affect the value of the record. And an in-tact cover will afford greater protection for the LP inside: a cover with a long split along the b...
another vinyl shipping question The reason is to prevent splits in the cover. If the LP is left *inside* the cover, it may shift a bit during transit - and if the shift is violent enough (as it would be if the shipping box were dropped or otherwise roughly handled) the LP can cu...
CD Jewel cases - Over 20 years and no improvement The cardboard, "wallet" style CD containers are the best, in my opinion. But - - - they cost quite a bit more to manufacture than the ubiquitous (and crappy) plastic ones. It's all about $$$$ !!
Can't tell if LP's are stereo or mono from ads My experience is the same as Narrod's - I've bought heaps of LPs on eBay and here (including a very fine copy of *Hatari* from Narrod) - - -- never had any problems figuring out if the LP was mono or stereo.
Where do you find new music? Sirius Satellite Radio (Pure Jazz 72) has introduced me to quite a number of contemporary new jazz releases. The most recent acquisition (based upon introduction via Sirius) is *Exploration* - by the Grachan Moncur III Octet - superb cd!!
How Big is Your Music Collection LPs - 4,400cds - 1500cassettes - 400r-2-r - 125SACD/DVD/DVA, etc., etc. - zero! |
