'Time Out' Classic Records vs. Acoustic Sounds
I picked up my copy of the Acoustic Sounds re-issue last week. I don't own the Classic Records re-issue, but I do own a pristine 2-Eye (2nd press) stereo copy and a NM- 6-eye mono copy. The Acoustic Sounds re-issue easily bests both of the origina...
Witch vinyl LP , EP or single you acquired FIRST?
Milstein Miniatures (Capitol P8339) and Milstein Vignettes (Capitol P8396), both with Nathan Milstein and Leon Pommers - acquired in 1962 via some record club or other. I still have both and, believe it or not, they still play wonderfully and get ...
Three Blind Mice 45RPM 6LP set opinions
Jfrech - If the Loricraft PRC-4 is the Mercedes-Benz of RCM's, then the Monks is the Rolls Royce! Are the fluids you mentioned easily obtainable in the U.S.? Where do you buy yours?
Three Blind Mice 45RPM 6LP set opinions
Well, I did a scrub job on the first two sides of *Misty* and the results are positive. While the record is not absolutely dead quiet, surface noise has been reduced to a very, very low level, and the record is now a keeper. In case anyone is inte...
Three Blind Mice 45RPM 6LP set opinions
My set arrived this week, and I've given all six records a listen. With the exception of *Misty* (which contained too many low grade pops on Side A; fewer of Side B) all was perfect. Excellent sound IMO - - - but I can't make a comparison to the o...
Which LPs are on your permanent rotation?
Chico Freeman on India Navigation (Kings of Mali; Spirit Sensitive; The Outside Within); plus some other "free jazz" titles on the same label. And. . . (an admittedly guilty pleasure) my vintage copy of Midnight in Moscow by Kenny Ball and His Jaz...
How many LP's do you own? How long did it take?
I have about 8,000. I bought my first LP in 1962, which I still own - - so 2012 is the "Golden Anniversary" of my addiction. The collection grew relatively slowly, but steadily, through the late 60's and picked up pace throughout the 70's and earl...
CD drive vibrates on some disks
Your CD is probably out of round. The best fix would be to run it through an Audio Desk CD cutter - - which is basically a lathe for CD's DVD's. Works like a charm for me.
Fed up with people making noise at classical shows
I feel your pain, Devilboy. Unfortunately, the behavior you cite is another example of the general coarsening of our society (along with sloppy dress in public, folks wearing baseball caps while dining in restaurants, etc). Perhaps we'll come full...
review of Eastern Electric M520
I own three EE components: the M520, purchased in 2005; the wonderful phono stage; and the (now discontinued) CD player. The tube driver circuit on the right channel of the M520 shorted out in 2008 (trashing an expensive pair of NOS Mullard EL34's...
Graham Phantom I tonearm
How old are the batteries in your stylus gauge? You might try replacing them - - a couple of years ago I had a similar problem with my stylus gauge. Putting in new batteries solved it. YMMV
Classic records reissue - very disappointing
The link I posted should be:http://qualityrecordpressings.com/Sorry for the error.
Classic records reissue - very disappointing
Elizabeth wrote:"The machines are all old, No one is building a new Lp pressing plant! Not any new machines. The vinyl is probably harder to get as they would want it. And the folks who KNEW what it should be are gone too."Acoustic Sounds made thi...
Good turntable needed, need recomendations.
Wendell has it 100% correct - if you think you want to get into vinyl, buy a good, used TT and then, if you decide vinyl really is for you, trade up.
Rega Apheta MC Cart
You are most welcome. Since you have a Rega arm, set up should be a breeze - I used the template that came with the cartridge and found installation easy. I like the cartridge so much that I bought a second one about a year and a half ago as a bac...
