Classical speakers that do violins well?? In that price range, try one of the new Focal Chorus speakers if you don't want planars. The new tweeter is great. Strings sound smoother than either Vandy 2 or 3.
iPod vs CD: WSJ CES Yeah, I am not a rotavirus! Tomryan, it has always been a fantasy of mine to meet a hot mama who is happy with a $4 value meal. You should have kept her around!
What does Jitter sound like? Having samples with jitter to compare would be meaningless unless the amount of jitter is quantified. Adding jitter to the point of making it an order of magnitude higher (nano seconds) than most decent players would not prove anything to me. Can ...
What does Jitter sound like? I am skeptical about all this. To me, the biggest flaw is the sampling rate itself. A well recorded sacd can sound quite amazing even on a budget player with mediocre parts. The cd layer won't sound as good and is not as resolving with the same pl...
iPod vs CD: WSJ CES This again proves to me beyond doubt that the average person really doesn't give a rats behind about what we audiophiles look for. If most of the participants in this test thought the boom and sizzle from their car stereo with dual 15" subs is wha...

Vienna Mozart or Dali Helicon 400 with YBA Ipous, let me clarify, I think the Triangles are a good value at their price points, just not my cup of tea. Since you mentioned Wagner, I think they would be fine for something like chamber music, I don't think they conveyed the full scale of an ...
Vienna Mozart or Dali Helicon 400 with YBA Seems like Triangle speakers would kill any "YBA magic" you are refering to. When I heard a pair of Celius ESW last week, they sounded clean and open but they also seemed too dry and thin and lacked depth. A little too "hifi" for my tastes.
Vandersteens on wood floors... couple or isolate Cdm, my 2ce sigs sounded best without any tilt so you may want to try them without stands and then add some rubber pads if you prefer. Keep us posted.
Vandersteens on wood floors... couple or isolate Cdm, which model do you have? Have you tried them without the sound anchors?
best "entry level" audiophile TT? Seems like the cartridge has a lot to do with the sonic quality of any TT so how can some of you categorically state one TT is better than the other unless the same cart was used for comparison?
CD player vibration control .................. Islandear, I totally agree with what you are saying, you cannot quantify the sonic changes with these products. However, you can very easily quantify if X product can indeed damp or dissipate vibration. You may not like the sonic result of a prope...
CD player vibration control .................. Gosthouse, the real trick is to determine how much your isolator has to compress for a particular weight it carries and you have to prevent horizontal front-to-back or side-to-side movement. An enclosed air bladder may provide real amd measurable ...
CD player vibration control .................. Rigid objects do not provide any vibration isolation or damping. They merely change the natural frequency of the system they are used in and it could still fall within the audio band (usually does). Look at some *real* isolators online, they usual... |
