Audio Research from VSi75 to LS28SE/VT80SE or Ref 6SE/Ref75SE?
Thanks, that does seem like sensible advice.
Analogue from Digital
Nobody wants to give that answer because it makes no sense.
Analogue from Digital
@sandthemall I believe the RIAA curve is only applied during retrieval and not when cutting the record. No, that is not correct. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_equalization
Audio Research VSi75 - End of Tube Life? KT120 vs KT150?
Thanks, they seem reasonably priced so I may give them a try.
Analogue from Digital
Unless the mastering is radically different between the vinyl and digital release, the vinyl version will always be worse than the digital version. First, you are listening to a recording of whatever DAC they happen to use in the pressing process....
Audio Research VSi75 - End of Tube Life? KT120 vs KT150?
@elliottbnewcombjr I have been adjusting the bias, but primarily to maintain it at the level recommended by ARC. I am not all that comfortable changing bias too far from the recommended levels. The previous owner did recommend biasing the KT150s a...
Audio Research VSi75 - End of Tube Life? KT120 vs KT150?
Thanks, it is interesting that there are certainly different perspectives on the KT150s, with the overwhelming majority preferring them over the KT120s. This includes the previous owner of my current amp, which suggests that it is a matter of pref...
Audio Research VSi75 - End of Tube Life? KT120 vs KT150?
Thanks, for the comments. @docknow The VSi75 power supply is fine with KT150s, and in fact the current version now ships with KT150s as stock.@rshad0000 That is reassuring, although from what I have read the vast majority of people who have done t...
Spindle-To-Pivot Distance
You asked whether I have experienced this. The answer is yes. About 25 years ago I once fitted a Rega arm to a Project turntable in place of the Project arm. The effective lengths of the arms were different by a similar margin. I didn't know much ...
Spindle-To-Pivot Distance
The stylus will mis-track, and you will get distortion, probably quite noticeably. Not good for your records and it will also sound unpleasant. If your tonearm cannot fit on your turntable at the specified distance, you need to replace either the ...
Ortofon Cadenza Black vs. Bronze
I have both the Black and the Bronze. I like both, but if forced to choose, I would pick the Bronze. The Black is more neutral and more detailed, though still reasonably warm and musical. The Bronze is just a shade less detailed but with a slight ...
DAC Shootout Starts This Weekend
I don’t really understand why there is this perception that FPGA = Good, while dac chips such as ESS, AKM, Burr Brown etc = Bad.Most FPGA designs are from one man operations with one idea and a limited budget, while the chips are generally designe...
Ortofon Cadenza Black loading
Yes. I run mine at 100 ohms and this seems perfect. To some extent it is dependant on the phono stage, but it seems most people run the Cadenza Black at 100 ohms from what I have read over the years.
Classic Ortofon Cartridges: The MC2000 MK II or the MC3000 MK II?
How would the Ortofon Jubilee compare with these older cartridges? The Jubilee was at the top of Ortofon's range in its time.I have just bought a "new" Jubilee from Ortofon's Treasure Trove and have been very impressed with it. I like it better th...
Tracking error or ??
Did you have the Kuzma 4 point 9? If so, was it on the LP12? I had both the 4 Point 9 and the 11 inch 4 Point. I preferred the standard 11 inch. Neither were on the LP12, but a Kuzma Stabi Reference. The Ekos SE was on the LP12. The PU7 was also...
