LAST Record Preservative. Do you believe?
I should have mentioned keeping those albums in Discwasher VRP sleeves, as well. Everything helped, I'm certain.
LAST Record Preservative. Do you believe?
I've been using LAST since 1980, on all my albums, after a VPI cleaning. Even those that were treating then, only require Discwasher cleaning, to sound new now. Perhaps the STYLAST I used with it helped as well, but- I'd still recommend the produc...
Do you leave your components on 24/7?
paperweight- let me rephrase something: Make that, "Comprehensively comprehensionally challenged", just for clarity.
Do you leave your components on 24/7?
Blah, blah, blah! Again- your being comprehensively challenged, has revealed itself. The very first paragraph of that treatise states, "Less appreciated, but no less important, is therole it plays in determining the quality factor, or Q, of the ca...
Do you leave your components on 24/7?
NOR did I say, "I can't explain why." There are numerous reasons. ie: It takes some time for the dielectrics within capacitors to fully form/absorb their charge, once they have been discharged(http://www.designers-guide.org/Modeling/da.pdf), and t...
Do you leave your components on 24/7?
paperweight- Who was it that admitted they don't know what they are talking about? Certainly NOT ME! I've probably forgotten more about audio gear, than you will ever know. I've been building, modding and repairing pro and home equipment for over ...
Do you leave your components on 24/7?
One can have enough degrees to be a thermometer(I only got two at Case Institute), and they will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for the individual's aural acuity, or their system's resolution(just two of many possible variables). My BAT VK-D5 CDP has a, "S...

Tube Basics 101: What is a rectifier tube for?
I based my comment on what you said about having a 12AX7 and 12AU7 in the phono circuit. Both are, "dual triode" tubes, and(as you have one each for both channels), if the two triodes(WITHIN EACH TUBE) are not balanced, neither will the sound be, ...
Tube Basics 101: What is a rectifier tube for?
Hello Mr N- While it is certainly true that everyones' aural accuity, and system resolutions vary; tubes in circuit make a dramatic difference, and one must be nearly deaf to miss their impact. Since you mentioned the 6SN7 family, I'll start there...
Tube Basics 101: What is a rectifier tube for?
A power supply's rectifier(and it's quality) is VERY important to the sound of any amplifying circuit(phono, mic, preamp, power amp, etc). Anyone that has taken the time to install, say a Mullard Blackburn GZ34/5AR4, in the place of most other tub...
How critical is alignment error??
Like I said, "without the ability to correct the figures for the error." Where is that option provided, on the Vinyl Engine website(the only one you mentioned)? Maybe I missed it.
How critical is alignment error??
Plugging his overhang figure into a formula will be worthless at this point, without the ability to correct the figures for the error in his spindle to tonearm pivot distance. VE's formulas(like ANY given alignment protractor) assume a correct spi...
What Cables should I try?
Audition the Kimber KS-1030 and Synergistic Tesla Apex ICs, from The Cable Company. Both are very transparent, will convey everything on your recordings(for better or worse) without getting sibilant, without loss of ambient info(great sound stagin...
How critical is alignment error??
How important? In a word, "VERY"! Then again, it all depends on how important it is to you(can you hear the difference, or will you obsess about it regardless?). Personally; It would bother me. This recent article will give you some excellent insi...
