Where to get protective cups for under spikes?
I had great success with fender washers from HD, glued together using JB Weld, painted flat black. Fender washers are easily identifiable by their smaller than usual hole. You'll need as many that your spikes will fit into without the points touch...
How Do You Organize Your Music?
My OCD (self-diagnosed) is cause for deep consternation in this area. I want to sort by genre, alpha, then chron, but each has it's own dilemma. For example ...GENRE: Muddy is Blues, but how about Fleetwod Mac with Green? And then what if I have F...

Your First Concert was.....
1970 (or '71?) - Olympia Stadium - Detroit, MI - 5th row - Alice Cooper and Steppenwolf. When Steppenwolf played "Pusher", with that awesome Hammond B3 and the searing, ear-splitting lead guitar my life changed. I went from being a stupid teenage ...
Who is your favorite jazz pianist
Oscar Peterson - for his non-stop swing;Bill Evans - for his elegance, beauty, and depth;and Red Garland - for his soulful groove.
Who is your favorite blues guitarist
Davy Knowles of Back Door Slam is my new, non-dinosaur favorite. This kid burns, and has a decent voice as well. http://www.myspace.com/backdoorslamTheir CD is good, but in no way displays the mighty prowess of this up and coming performer.
Best speakers for 3 cord rock and roll
Scott_wojo - Only SS I've heard them on was BYOB http://www.mother-of-tone.com/byob.htm and for rock they did really well. It was only on some acoustic (piano, guitar, voice) that they sounded "cupped" to me (i.e., cupping your hands around your m...
Who is your favorite blues guitarist
Hey Jaybo - Michael is one of my all-time favs. "Live at Bill Graham's Fillmore West" has some great tunes, and Bloomfield really shines on it. But also, if you are unaware, you need to pick up this release by Nick Gravenites, "My Labors". Not so ...
Best speakers for 3 cord rock and roll
Scott_wojo - Heard the Hornshoppe Horns in a medium/large room (17'x24'?) the other night driven by a Cayin A-88T (integrated). The sound of these IS addicting. I am still not convinced of their use for jazz, but can say with utmost confidence tha...
Best speakers for 3 cord rock and roll
Scott_wojo - Sure will. Ann Arbor? The last time I was in Ann Arbor I was standing inside the stadium feeling mighty queezy as Colorado just scored the winning touchdown in the final seconds in what, for me, was UM's most shocking and sickening lo...
Very inexpensive speakers for a 2nd system
How about $100 for a pair of excellent speakers? Is that cheap enough for ya? They are DIY, but appear to be very simple - The Zimahornets - check out this great review:http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/zigmahornet/zigmahornet.htmlDave Merrill sa...
Best speakers for 3 cord rock and roll
Shadorne - I can understand your skepticism. I too was an unbeliever about these small drivers/boxes. Granted, I have only heard them in a small room driven by a 10wpc chip amp (BYOB), but even there they astounded and confounded me. Their ability...
Best speakers for 3 cord rock and roll
Shadorne - curious, why not Horn Shoppes?
Speakers with high WAF?
For furniture grade, drop dead gorgeous cabinets AND great audio reproduction, check out Jim Salk's work at http://www.salksound.com - no prettier cabinet work anywhere else. My wife approved mine prior to buying - different than Jim's, but still ...
Best speakers for 3 cord rock and roll
Believe me now and hear me later, check out a pair of Hornshoppe Horns. I spent several hours with a pair the other day, driven by a BYOB (10 wpc) amp (with car battery). For me, the jury is still out on jazz and classical, but rock ... MAN THESE ...
