need pre amp suggestion
The mapletree stuff looks really interesting, especially at the price points. It looks very well built, does that hold true in reality?YES!! Give Dr. Peppard (great fellow) a call to discuss your equipment and needs. He will optimally customize ea...
Company or Solitude?
Solitude. For me, listening seriously to music is like floating down an unexplored river. Not knowing what lies beyond the next bend, but thoroughly enjoying the ride. When I sit down to listen I want to hear the songs which create whatever path m...
Odyssey Mono Extremes vs. AVA Fet Valve
I'm interested in a description of the perceived sonic differences. Or also of a Belles 350 Ref (stereo) and the AVA. Thank you.
15 watts & 94 db eff. speakers: how loud?
Philjolet - huh? 3dB increase can be detected by most.Joelv - huh? each 3dB increase requires around (not exact) double the power, not tenfold. so 97 requires 2 watts, 100 requires 4 watts.
Source or speaker
Speaker first. Audition speakers at your house and commit lots of time evaluating them. Make sure you listen to various types of speakers (box sealed, box ported, OB, planar, high efficient, low efficient, one/two/three/etc. drivers, sat/sub, etc....

System too harsh Help
Sansui80 - I am not recommending you not do the mods. I am only suggesting you speak with Stephen about this issue and only proceed if you are satisfied with his explanation. All of my dealings (general questions, work done on my amp and CDP) with...
System too harsh Help
Sansui80 - I have a Ref 2.2 (not Linear, but original) on which QFS did the "factory" upgrade. I am very pleased with the improvements - improved mid-range, smoother, more detailed yet less harsh. However, I've been told that QFS is no longer the ...
If money is not a problem
Not sure I would ever be satified with only one pair of speakers, as there may likely not ever be one perfect design for all music. So, I'd have several rooms dedicated to audio, each one fitted with an optimally tweaked system for specific music:...
Jazz artists for late starter.
Can't go wrong with Art Pepper + 11.Also Cannonball Adderly "Something Else".
Reasonably Priced PreAmp without Phono ?
Brand new, tubed, great peamp is the Malpetree Audio 2A SE Linestage: octal pin based; separate power supply; point-to-point wiring; 3 outputs, all customizable gain. I love mine. Extended, organic, palpable. http://www.affordableaudio.org/Mapletr...
Can you hook up a sub to a Consonance A120?
That was a great integrated for me if I didn't push the volume too much. I recall that it seemed to have less power than rated. Never measured it, but it just seemed that way. But it sounds like for your application it fits very well. It sounded g...
Thoughts on new amp
It is not necessarily just your amp but also likely your preamp. Do you know how much gain it has? Most preamps have way too much gain AFAIK. That's why I had mine built with only 10dB of gain, and actually could have gone as low as 6dB but at the...
Can you hook up a sub to a Consonance A120?
Sure! I did when I had one. It has a pair of line-level outputs. Nice amp. What speakers and sub do you have?
