VR 2's, audes blues or eminent tecnology lft viii After auditioning the VR2's and the Audes Blues back-to-back, it was clear to me that the VR2's sounded less distorted. I liked the clarity of the VR2's over the Audes Blues, especially while listening to jazz, vocals, and acoustic music. The Aude...
Pre for TAD-60 Bud,No prob. No, I am not affiliated with Mapletree Audio in any way. I am just so danged impressed with the quality of my preamp from Dr. Peppard that I could spit! And only $650 new!? Actually, mine was $675 because a slight upgrade to another p...
Pre for TAD-60 After receiving my Linestage 2A SE preamp from Dr. Lloyd Peppard (www.mapletreeaudio.com) I am finally jumping off of the audio merry-go-round. This preamp uses octal-based tubes, has a separate power supply, is wired point-to-point, and you can s...
The best speaker you ever heard? Aktchi,I understand your interest in comparing the HT3s to Tyler, Silverline, etc., as those are presumably in a class higher than most speakers I have heard. Unfortuntely I have not had the opportunity to hear any of them. I would love to go to o...
The best speaker you ever heard? Aktchi,Comparisons were of some speakers past. I admit that the HT3s were nearly the most expensive speakers I've heard. The others: Audes Blues; Tannoy Eyris DC-3; Vandersteen 2ce; Von Schweikert VR-2; Zu Druid; Vienna Acoustic Beethoven Baby Gra...
The best speaker you ever heard? An earlier post declared the best speaker was, "no speaker. it's ive music." I used to agree, typos aside. That is, until this last weekend. I went to Jim Salk's house to audition a pair of his Veracity HT3s. After listening for a bit, I came to t...
Vandersteen 2ce sigs? Beginner needs guidance. I mentioned the VR-2s, but used, of course. Such as: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1155740641
SUBWOOFER ADVICE NEEDED IMO the best sub on the market (within reasonable cost) is the ACI Titan. I auditioned REL, Martin-Logan, Polk, B&W, and more whose names escape me (sorry). But none sounded more musical than the Titan. And it also has satisfying HT-type power...
Vandersteen 2ce sigs? Beginner needs guidance. I auditioned a pair of 2ce's and absolutely did NOT like them at all for music other than acoustic or jazz. Classic rock, electric blues, Radiohead sounded weak IMO. I auditioned many speakers at $1K - $2K and struggled to find any which fulfilled...
Eastern Electric Mini Max vs AE-3 DJH preamps If you really need that much power and would like an awesome SS amp, try Frank Van Alstine's OmegaStar 440 EX (220 wpc - $1499). Seriously. And if you decide you don't like it within 30 days you can return it for a full refund, less shipping ($38)...
Personal amp evolution 1. Kenwood receiver (100 wpc, baby cakes)2. Opera Audio Consonance a120 Hybrid Integrated (sweet)3. Van Alstine Ultra 550 (hybrid, pure music)I have no plans on replacing the 550, unless I somehow, unexpectedly, acquire a load of cash, or my wife ...
Choosing proper gain for preamp. Am I screwed? I ended up specifying gains for my soon to be built preamp as: 10dB, 10dB, 18dB. Thanks for your input.
Preamp: AVA T8, Quicksilver, Mapletree 2A SE? I ended up ordering a Mapletree Audio Linestage 2A SE (with PS 2 power supply). Hope its a keeper.
Intergrated Amp with VR4jrs Excuse my tubeness, but if I may ...I did not have your speakers but did have the VR-2's hooked up to my Opera Audio Consonance a120 Hybrid Integrated (tube pre/ solid-state power) and they sounded fantastic. I, like you, did not want to mess with...
Subwoofer reccomendations I auditioned the REL, Martin-Logan Depth, and a bunch of others (Klipsch, Polk, B&W, ...) and the best of them all IMO was the ACI Titan. In your price range, plus you get a 30 day trial! |
