Zu def 4 are they the best speaker made? Answer to original post: No. My opinion (with my ears, brain, etc.), of course.
use same speakers for music and home theater Try it and hear for yourself. It is an easy and free experiment. Doubt anyone could state factually that it would not be a good match without having heard them together.
Mono recordings For the most part not much IMO. Stereo done correctly, whether in original recording or not, sounds better to me nearly all of the time because of the spatial and dimensional aspect of the sounds which stereo provides. Which sounds more life like....

Eggleston Works Andra II speakers as forever speakers. I've had my EgglestonWorks Fontaines (smaller brother of the Andras) for over 10 years, have demoed many speakers more and less expensive, before and since, yet I still prefer my Eggys. I really don't see swapping them out. So sure, at least for m...
Tube Preamp Recommendations? Does this mean these provide less detail at the expense of more midrange bloom?I experience no less detail with mine, but it depends on the tubes you install. For mine, one set of 6SN7s bloomed the midrange and fuzzed up the detail, while another ...
Suggestions to help you sell your equipment on Audiogon Another suggestion: If you gear needs a minimal amount of repair/refurbish, get it done before you try and sell. I roll my eyes when someone says their gear is missing a minor part that can be easily repaired cheaply. Well, if it is so easy and ch...

Upgrading path from Merlin VSM black magic When I imagine a larger sounding version of the VSM speakers I think of the EgglestonWorks Andra. I own the Fontaines which, to me, sound similar to the VSM (without the BAT), and seem to have similar physical makeup. I thought the Fontaines sound...
Worst record ever? How come Bruce Jenner never took a stab at singing?Golden opportunity missed! Wouldn’t it have been terrifically bad had Bruce laid down tracks for an album before his transformation, then as Caitlyn Marie, added harmony to the mix. The first ever...
Has anyone found Audio Nirvana? Yes. For my current equipment and room, while listening I experience neither suffering (from bad sound), desire (for better sound), nor sense of self, and am released from the effects of karma and the cycle of death and rebirth. (Assuming I am not...

Who listens primarily to Redbook CD? Redbook CD is my only source and I love it! Consonance Opera Reference 2.2 , modified by Stephen Montey as "factory" mods, which apparently they were not. But the mods made definite improvements over the stock gear.
The new re-mix of Sgt. Pepper's Not me. No interest either. After purchasing the 2009 Mono Box set and stereo mix I swore off buying any more Beatles recordings ever again and I’m sticking to my guns. Since 1965 I’ve bought multiple copies of vinyl (45s and albums), cassettes, a... |
