For 2-channel listening I'd recommend a tube amp, room treatments, and possibly speaker toe-in/out adjustments. Borrowing a partial quote posted by a very knowledgeable man from another thread touting an advantage of employing a tube amplifier .... 
For tube sound, which is more important: preamp or power amp?

What is it that you don't like about your Listening Room ?
I FINALLY have a dedicated room and am REALLY thankful for this. However, although it is a decent size the stupid ceiling is too low. This is in the basement and the ceiling tiles are hung as high as they can go but they are still not quite even 8...
