Your first component that was "special"
Back in 2005, so not until I was 50 years old, an Opera Audio a120 integrated hybrid amplifier (90W, 6H30 tube) was the first piece of audiophile kit I’d ever acquired. It was my Pandora’s box intro to the amazing world of hi-end audio that, until...
Must speakers have certain volume to sound convincing ?
My EgglestonWorks Fontaines do need a kick in the pants to sound good. For me, not that the room is inadequately pressurized but seems more like the drivers, which are quite robustly built, need some power to move optimally. Not so with my desktop...
Let's see or discuss your desktop speakers!
Adam F7 Active Monitor speakers for me - so no need for amplifier. Plugged directly into my laptop's headphone out. Terrific sound! Their ART (Accelerating Ribbon Technology) tweeter is awesome sounding. And they're front ported, which is great fo...
Preamps-Tube
I’m using a Mapletree Audio Design line stage. 2 chassis with tube rectification. I’ve stopped looking for better. +1 ... Me too! Agree. And one of the best features is being able to run 6SN7 or 12SN7 tubes, depending on your taste and budget.
List of musicians changed career with better success...
Robert Gordon did fair as a punk rocker, but his career improved once he embraced Rockabilly. +1I saw him perform with my one of my fav rockabilly bands back in the day in Detroit, the Twistin' Tarantulas. One of the best live shows I'd ever see...
Tell Us about an Album That Took a Long Time to Grow on You
Miles Davis’, "Bitches Brew". It took me almost 40 years before I finally enjoyed this album. (Not just this one, but his subsequent releases as well.) It was not as if I listened to it every week for decades, but would periodically give it a spin...

What is your go-to online place to buy physical medium of music? And why?
Oops, forgot to mention why I buy where I do - cheapest price and availability.
What is your go-to online place to buy physical medium of music? And why?
Amazon for most of my CDs. Also will buy used from Discogs.com for OOP CDs. Also belong to swapacd.com - super cheap swapping site. And sometimes I have no choice but to go directly to the producer or artist site.
Albums you can listen too all the way through and it's all good
All of the ones I own - thank goodness for writable CDs. Some in their original state, if not enjoyed completely, I’ll delete tracks. If I need to delete too many I’ll purchase more from the same artist and put together a "best liked" compilation....
Diffuse Front Wall? Absorb rear wall?
ptss - thank you for the good advice. yes, one does need to keep their bs radar on full scan whenever speaking with a manufacturer, dealer, or fan boy. that is for sure. GIK Acoustics and Brian Pape have helped me resolve some past issues so I am ...
Austrailian rock and roll
Not a "band", per se, but a terrific performer, Mia Dyson. I have two of her releases, "Parking Lots" and "Struck Down", both excellent music.
Diffuse Front Wall? Absorb rear wall?
After speaking with one of the well known manufacturers of acoustical products, based on their recommendation, for my new room I will be treating the front corners and first and second side reflections with absorption/traps; and the back wall with...
Best significant upgrade? Dac? Preamp?
Get a tube amplifier. Something like a VAC 300.1 or VAC Phi 200. Or perhaps one of the big boys from VTL or BAT.
