Need recommendation for new CD/SACD player
I now have an Oppo 981 and an Oppo 983. The 983 replaced a Denon 3910, a very good unit itself. But I liked the look of the Oppo's blue lights in my system better. No kidding, that's how shallow I am [smile].Anyway, the 983 sounds terrific to my e...
Help -- need Idiot's Guide to music server system
The first thing you need to do is to calculate your storage requirements/capacity. If you compress the CDs' WAVs to FLAC format, you'll need approx. 300-400 MB per CD. If you have 1,000 CDs, this means you need approx. 300-400 GB of hard disc spac...

Tandberg, from the early to mid-80s. As sweet a sound as you'll ever hear and very well-built...Great phono sections, too!-RW-
An Audiophile's journey
"First of all you english teachers out there just don't read this and we'll both be the better off for it. English grammer and spelling is something that I'm not well educated in.Clearly, you've never encountered the word "paragraph" in your audio...
silver vs silver coated digital coax?
Save your money, son. The electrons neither know nor care. Go to MonoPrice and snag a very nice coax cable for about $10. Send the money you would have spent to a worthy charity or help out the homeless guy who is sleeping under the bridge near yo...
Looking for the Best Sounding 250 Tracks
Right off the top of my head, Pat Metheny's "Imaginary Day", Junior Wells's "Come On In This House", and Porcupine Tree's "in Absentia" all come to mind as outstanding-sounding albums. Pick most any track from them and you're gold...-RW-
NBS cables ... a couple of questions ...
"The prices are extremely high, but, my guess is that their stuff is priced this way based on how cables perform relative to their competition. Certainly, the prices don't reflect cost of manufacture in any way."My guess is that they've figured ou...

Spraying the platter
Go ahead and spray it, those who worry that it will change the sound suffer from Audiophilia Nervosa. I *would* recommend that you use a platter mat to keep the records from making direct contact with the paint. Go for it - it'll look great!!-RW-
Replacing old CDP for Universal Player?
I am currently using an Oppo 983 and I love it. It will play every shiny disc format (except BluRay or HD-DVD), including HDCD, SACD, and DVD-Audio. It is well-built, looks nice, and sounds great. It's also well within your budget at $399:http://o...
Speakers play down till ?hz before imaging suffers
Once you start getting below 100Hz localization of the sound becomes difficult/impossible. Genereally speaking, find out what the 3db down point is for your main speakers and setup your sub to come in at slightly above that freq. This is a "ballpa...
finally got my system up and running

Does a Power Cord make a sonic diff on a TT
For goodness sakes, stick with the $100 unit. Turntables are low-power devices, a firehose cable ain't gonna help you.-RW-
speaker recommendation 2500 or less small room
I am honored that you acted on my suggestion. I am thoroughly thrilled with my Ref. 3s. They love high-current amps, keep that in mind when mating them up to your front-end. Let us know how they work out for you...-RW-
