Who needs power cables anyway? And you are absolutely sure this approach would produce a better result than any other power cord and outlet combination? It could be worse.
HELP with Room Treatment See Slideshow Take a look at GIK acoustics. They have some nice corner traps that sit on the floor and sell panels with stands that you could experiment with. The prices are real world.
Life without a remote Unless you can place the preamp where it can be adjusted from your listening position, you will ultimately become dissatisfied since you are already accustomed to a remote. My secondary system and my back-up preamp do not have remote control and I ...
Room treatment dealer? You may want to take a look at GIK Acoustics.
CAD 211 AE Owners I have VAC amps and the manual states that it is acceptable to use both taps at the same time. I have tried that option on different speakers but use the 8 ohm tap right now. I don't see why the Cary would be bothered by using both sets of taps at...
Tube amplification for Lipinski 505's? Why not try a Cary SLI 80? No worries about power, and it has the rich tube sonics Cary is famous for. It's also a good looking amp. There is one advertised now for 1400.00.
Best EL-34 Amps? There are a pair of VAC PA90c amps listed for 2895.00. VAC makes great amps plus they are gorgeus. I have no personal experience with the PA90 to know how quiet it is.Other el34 amps I can think of are Manley Snappers and Retro 250's which are ove...
Best remote with preamp The first thing you don't want is a stepped volume control. They always wind up too loud or too soft for the level one wishes to attain. The VAC Renaissance has a solid metal remote, nicely weighted, smooth finish, minimalist features, with soft b...
Biasing Classe DR 25 power amp When I had my DR-8's they were set about 18ma per transistor (times 4 for the DR8) and I was told max current was 24ma. I set them at 22ma to be on the safe side. The higher bias did make the sound warmer/richer.
No escrow? I always check how long the other party has been a member of AudioGon, check their feedback, and whether they have been active in any threads. This will give you a good idea of the other parties intent and integrity. If you are a new member, someo...
Affordable pre-amp solutions?? There is a Manley Shrimp for sale now for less than a grand. I found the Shrimp to be an engaging pre to listen to while my VAC was in for repair. The volume control is continuous instead of stepped which I find important. Compared to an ARC SP16,...
Tube Amp to Pair with Duevel Planets? I will vote for the Manley Stingray. I can't think of another integrated that would sound better with your speakers. I heard the Planets with the monoblock version of the Stingray (Mahi Mahi) and the sound was stunning. There was no shortage of po...

bass in the room I had/have a similar problem. In my crummy room (vaulted ceiling, open at the top to kitchen/dining area) the N802's exhibited a pronounced dip at 60-70hz which robbed the bass of impact. The sub doesn't help because it reinforces the areas where ...
Replacements for Quad 989's ?? My local dealer has 2805's set up with a Wilson Benesch Torus sub and impact is one of the strengths. It is more than just low frequency rumble and shake, it is a seamless extension of the Quads bottom end. Pretty damn impressive! |
