Grilles or No Grilles
Grilles on. My Triad speakers are designed that way. The ESP speakers don't have a removable grille. I prefer the look of the N802 with the grilles and have made choices of set up and cabling so configured to sound best (to me) with the grilles in...
Component racks
11flat6, my current racks are a Polycrystal and Deluxe Roomtunes. I was all excited when I purchased the Polycrystal since it had received so many positive reviews in S-phile and were in many reviewers systems. I moved all the best gear over to my...
Component racks
Mapleshade racks is what I want to own. I have one Mapleshade platform which I like. I love the looks and the solid construction. There are many favorable comments on the positive sonics of these racks. I would stay away from any rack that suppose...
Creek Destiny or Rogue Cronus Magnum?
The latest TAS has a review of the Rogue.
Sound diffusion panels--do they reduce brightness?
IME no. Looking at your room, your speakers and seating position are well away from room boundaries. I would look to a change in amp or cables.
Should i keep my N802 or upgrade to N803D
Keep the N802's. The 803 lacks the sophisticated bass cabinet and midrange enclosure of the 802. The diamond tweeter may be an improvement but the remainder of the speaker would be a big step down. Remember that most of the music lies in the midra...
CAV-50 and 804 Diamonds
If you liked your tube sound but want to find a better match to the B&W's I would recommend the W4S STI 500. I have the ST500 on my N802's and it is excellent (and not just for the money).
Anyone try stuffing their ports?
Just checking out your system, and on 11/14 you were really excited. So what happened? Sometimes, a change that initially sounds better will sound inferior after a period of time. Sometimes one change begets another. You could try re-positioning t...
Technics SL-10 Linear Tracking
Dmm53, it has a built in step-up for an MC cartridge but no phono stage. There is a push button switch at the rear to select between MC and MM. In either case you will need a preamp with a phono stage or an outboard phono stage.
Is rack between speakers always less than ideal?
I notice you don't have a rack between your speakers. (The main system has the rack to the side and my secondary system is in between)BTW, it appears, from your photos, you are sitting too far from your ESP's. They are designed to cross approximat...
Is rack between speakers always less than ideal?
No, it is not "always" less than ideal. Let the space and ergonomics of the room be the deciding factor. If you look at my systems you will notice the different setups. Both systems soundstage just fine but as always a bit different. I would think...
Vandersteen 3A sigs, whats wrong here.
Could it be you are just used to hearing fat ported bass and the bass alignment in the Vandersteen with the passive radiator sounds comparatively lean? It's easy to find that fat sound appealing. It may also take some time to get used to the diffe...
Which cost more: your system or your car?
I have spent more on audio than my current cars but if I added up all the cars I've owned then I'd have spent more on cars. I spend less than an hour a day driving and manage at least three hours for audio so the audio gets more use. In 1970 I pur...
Decent p-mount table?
I still have an SL-10. I haven't played it in awhile. I might have to fire it up. It benefitted from being placed on a Townshend seismic sink. It is currently fitted with an Ortofon OM20 cartridge. I have the original MC cartridge which I never us...
How necessary is a zerostat gun?
I have one but rarely use it.
