VPI Speed Problem
Wow, DP, you can't even follow the intstructions for a simple experiment. All you calculated was the added drag of the stylus. You forget about the weight of the LP itself and the RECORD CLAMP. Long live the rimm drive!!!!!!!!!! I'm running out an...
VPI Speed Problem
The experiment is put flimsy strobe disc on platter, run motor warmed up and then check speed. Next put record on platter, and place flimsy strobe on top, then clamp down. Run table for warm up, then drop stylus into run in groove and let play. Yo...
Vinyl sounds a bit thin and slightly strident.
I had that problem when I owned a Ruby 2. The line contact stylus Benz uses is a pia to get the VTA right with. Make sure your arm is sloped down in the back a bit and keep the stylus clean as a possible.
VPI Speed Problem
Speed has to be checked when a record is playing while the stylus is in the groove. Checking with a strobe disc without the drag of the stylus is not accurate. You will set your rpm too high. Use the strobe disc to get you in the ballpark. Then fi...
VPI Speed Problem
For general knowledge, the way I set speed is by ear, when the record is playing. I play the exact same title on cd, from that same master tape source. I do this with a few records/cd's and A/B back and forth during play. When the sound is perfect...
Last song on most LP's pressed with compression
Halco, it appears that you are quite fortunate. In addition to your very impressive analog rig, its obvious that your LP collection is comprised of only the finest cut records of all. Congratulations, it must have been some effort to put that coll...
VPI Speed Problem
Maybe you could borrow the new VPI rim drive and give it a try on your Super Scoutmaster. Decide for yourself if the belt or rim is "better"
Last song on most LP's pressed with compression
I just spent a good amount of time meticulously going over my setup. The only thing I found that might be slightly off (and its not getting easier to see these days)is the spindle to pivot point. I increased the distance about .05MM to what appear...
Last song on most LP's pressed with compression
A perfect example is Neil Young's LP "Comes A Time". Take a look at side 2, last song "Four Strong Winds". 1/3 way into the song you can see the dynamic range/compression limiting in the grooves. You clearly hear the drop off in sound quality when...
How many great CDs do you have?
About 300 out of 2000.
Classe ca 301 is the low end weak.
The CA- 300 could present weakness in the bass as the transistors used in that model heated up. The Ca-301 did not display that trait.
Marantz SA7S1 owners - stock or modded
Marantz cd players use Electrolytic capacitors on the output. Last time I check, they also used HDAM (high-definition audio modules)as the ouput stage. The resulting sound is fast transients and a "harshness" to vocals. One experience with Marantz...
Are there any 6H30's with a sweet upper midrange?
I would try plugging in a 6CG7/6FQ7 tube into the socket. Draws less heater current than a 6H30, has about the same gain and sounds MUCH better.
RB 300 wire- Ingognito or Cardas and why?
Incognito wire kit is constructed using Cardas stranded litz wire.
VPI motor makes loud pops when turned on & off
VPI stated to me that adding a capacitor will negatively affect the performce of the motor/SDS. "Sounds better" w/out additional cap.. So i left my set-up alone and lower to vol pot when pressing the on/off.
