Reference Recordings (The Label)
The entire series is outstanding; I particularly like the Shostakovich and their Strauss recordings..
Better/best fullrange nearfield speakers?
Despite their size, the (aptly named) Nearfield Acoustics Pipedreams work extremely well in nearfield listening.  I sat three feet from them and never heard any of the drivers, just a huge, deep soundstage
Favorite Guitar Solo
Agree that there are too many to choose one, but two that come to mind to me are David Gilmour's solo in Pimk Floyd's Comfortably Numb and Jeff Beck in People Get Ready with Rod Stewart..
Anyone own 200iq and prefer kt150 over kt88
Can't help on the first question, I just use KT88s in my Phi 200 and am happy with them so I'm not trying any other output tubes (you could try getting some different input tubes, I like NOS RCAs for their richness, but you could get NOS Sylvanias...
I want a new to me CD player but need to have HDCD decoding capability
Not sure what your budget is, but there’s a Spectral unit which decodes HDCD for sale on this site from The Music Room (no affiliation). I believe that the Spectral player was designed in part by Keith Johnson, who did the HDCD recordings for Refe...
Organ CDs with really deep bass
That Fox recording is a lot of fun, and it does have a good deal of bass.  I found the CD to be a little dry, but the D2D (I have the Crystal Clear) is pretty good, even though it has a few wrong notes in it that were cleaned up on the CD.  Fox wa...
Owners of Duntech Crown Prince still out there?
I had a pair of the original Crown Princes with the veneer (which made it a Princess); the list price back in 1987 when I got them was $7,700US, I believe.  The Crown Prince without the veneer was less, maybe between $6,000 and $6,500 (?).  It had...
Tube Dealers 2021
+1 on Andy Bouwman at Vintage Tube Services.  His prices reflect the lengths he goes to testing the tubes andmaking sure you have the real tubes you want.  Tough to reach but I believe he is worth the trouble.
Amperex "Bugle Boy" tube compatibility
Agree with the above, don't use a 12AX7 type in a 6DJ8 circuit.  Amperex made wonderful Bugle Boy 6DJ8s, I would look for them.
Classical Music for Aficionados
Rvpiano, that Zander disk also has both versions of the last movement, the original version with the three hammer blows and the final with two.  I think one of the stories about why it was changed was that Mahler the conductor so identified with t...
My new to me Herron VTPH-2A - First impressions
Congratulations on a fine purchase.  While your CJ is a fine unit, you might want to try to find a Herron line stage to go with it as well, I think you'd like it a lot.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
I tend to agree somewhat with spiritofradio on the sonics of the von Karajan Beethoven cycle, while good they are geared more towards the performance rather than the sonics, as is the case with many of the DG recordings of the time.  Don't mistake...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
I've been going through a Beethoven Symphony box I didn't realize I had, the 1963 von Karajan cycle with the Berlin Philharmonic.  Last few nights I've listened to symphonies 1-5 and 7; tonight it's symphony 6 and perhaps 8.  I can see why many fe...
to buy or not to buy (ultrasonic record cleaner)
If it's the same record, did you clean it with your system first and then the ultrasonic, or vice versa?  They do seem different, though I couldn't tell you if one was cleaner than the other.
Why would 2 schiit aegir amps sound the same as 1?
I think russ69 might have made the incorrect assumption that the OP was using both amps in stereo mode and bi-amping (28x4?).  From what I can see, OP's talking about one stereo amp vs. two monoblocks.  That said, the power difference still doesn'...
