Survey on Cost of Loudspeakers Supported On Townshend Seismic Isolation Podiums
I use the original version of the Podiums, called Speaker Cradles, under Nola Micro References originally listed for around $14-15K.  I agree with others, the cost of the speakers is irrelevant, I'd say most speakers would benefit from them regard...
Dunlavy SC IV Speaker- Any Good???
As to your question about power, I think Dunlavy suggested 100 watts per channel.  My recollection is that the Dunlavys were about 90db efficient, and a nominal 4 ohm load.  For my Duntech Princesses, a similar load, I used a Krell KSA 80 (100 wat...
Dunlavy SC IV Speaker- Any Good???
I wouldn't wait for a pair of IV-As to show up.  They were tweaked from the IVs to add a little more bass extension, bit I don't think it's necessary.  If you want more bass extension, wait for a pair of SC-Vs. The Duntech equivalent of the SC-IV...
Dunlavy SC IV Speaker- Any Good???
Excellent speakers, a classic design.  Amazing imaging, maybe not as transparent as the best in that area, but well-balanced tonally and excellent dynamics.  You need a large room for them to sound their best and should sit at least 10 feet from t...
Kef LS50s - great like me but need to come up for air
For that size room and sound, maybe an older pair of Vandersteen Model 1s or 2s?  Otherwise I'd second Harbeths.
Mounting Speakers On A Furniture Dolly For Mobility
I'd think that the dollies should affect the sound, as they would move the drivers 3+ inches higher from the floor and therefore affect the blend of drivers at the listening position.  You might check the owner's manual to see what the manufacture...
How many SACD / Blu-ray audio / DVD audio / etc do you own?
I have roughly 270-300 SACDs, maybe 20 hi-rez downloads on my Memory Player.  If you're also counting other media, maybe 700 CDs (plus a lot more in the Memory Player) and down to about 530 LPs.  As I get older I'm trying to downsize, used to have...
Evaluating Classical Music Albums
What I've noticed is that the orchestras' private labels generally use live performances (LSO Live, SFO, Royal Concertgebouw and Berlin Philharmonic, at least in some cases), while most of the commercial labels like Sony, Decca, DG and Phillips st...
Do we really know what "Live" music sounds like?
As virtually all the concerts I attend are unamplified classical concerts (orchestral, chamber choral, organ and piano recitals) or small acoustic ensembles (folk), and playing guitar and singing in choirs myself, I'd say I know what live music so...
Anybody here listen to Mahler?
Yes, Tilson-Thomas did record a Mahler 8.  I enjoy that series a lot.
Calling All Ex - Shindo Preamp Owners
It's an old generation, circa around 2012 or earlier--made by the father, Ken.  Probably not as neutral as the newer models from his son.
Calling All Ex - Shindo Preamp Owners
I have an EMM Labs XDS1 v.3 and Laufer Teknik Memory Player for digital sources, Basis Ovation vacuum TT/Graham Supreme/Air Tight analog source, VAC Phi 200 amp and Nola Micro Reference speakers (room is only 11x14, can't use bigger speakers), wit...
Calling All Ex - Shindo Preamp Owners
I'm not an ex-Shindo owner, but I had my Monbrisson in the shop for a while to fix a transformer buzz and a general refurbishment after a little over 8 years.  While it was away I used a passive TVC unit (Prometheus) and was very surprised as to h...
unkonw WILSON speaker
I never heard of a Dalek from Wilson; isn't that a Dr. Who creation?  To tell the truth, I wonder if it's not a knock-off.  I don't recall Wilson ever using rounded cabinets like that. and the midrange doesn't look like a Wilson driver.
Commander Cody
Now I'm feeling old.  My wife and I saw him and the Lost Planet Airmen in Ann Arbor in the early 70s as a lead-in act for the Byrds.  RIP, and keep driving that hot rod Lincoln..
