Practice Amp for use with Headphones advice I sent your post to my brother, who plays electric and acoustic guitar, and this was his response. As you see, he is approaching it a different way: I’m familiar with the Orange amp. Not the Fender (though I like Fender amps). I do know that ...
What internet stations do you listen to enrich your musical mind? I listen a lot to BBC3, especially the nightly concerts. Also WQXR from my old stomping grounds in NY and WHRO here in Virginia, which is a very good public radio classical station. The announcers are all knowledgeable about classical music and ...
Preamp with two volume controls? On the high end side, both Lamm (LL 2.1, L2.1) and Jadis (JP 80MC, JPS 2, JP 200MC) have separate volume controls for each channel. In addition, since both the Jadis and Lamm preamps have tape-out outputs, you could run two outputs for each chann...
Mid-fi tube vs high-end SS FWIW, John Atkinson gave a very favorable review of the Tyr in the latest S-phile issue, favorably comparing it with the Benchmark and even his Parasound Halo JC-1+.
Please share pics of what inside YOUR power conditioners I' might do it, except it's under a rack and too heavy to move due to my age and rotator cuff surgery (Silvercircle Pure Power One 50). Pretty sure there's a huge transformer in there.
Mid-fi tube vs high-end SS First off, I can't help on the specific amps you have and are considering. That said, I think it would help you get some informed answers to know what speakers you use, and what you like and don't like about your current setup.
Sound is better when I stand up? +1 jond. With most speakers your ears should be at tweeter level to sound as spacious as intended. Have you tried tilting the speakers towards you or raising your listening chair?
Thiel 03a Post this in the Thiel Owners thread, lots of helpful people there.
What is the Best Sounding Stand Mount Speaker in the world? Best I have ever heard is the Nola Micro Reference, but I bought them 9 years ago and haven't really listened to anything since then. I'm sure that the state of the art has moved since then.
Wilson tiny tots Actually, looking at the Hegel specs, that amp may well be able to drive the WATTs (it seems to be rated into two ohms, albeit at 60 watts into that load). A little more than the OP wanted to spend though, even used. Audiotroy used to be, or may...
Right match Sounds like the problem is in the preamp, then, or maybe the connections. I'd ask my dealer for help first before returning it.
Right match Unless there is something not working properly in the preamp or amp, you'd have to assume that two Musical Fidelity products of the same product line should work fine together. You might want to try the MM/MC switch to see if it makes an improvem...
Right match The M8 has a phono stage, according to the website, claiming for both MM and MC. So along mesch's lines, (1) did you plug the TT into the phono input and (2) if so, did you plug it into the MM or MC input? From your description it sounds like yo...
Wilson tiny tots Just so I understand, you did say "tiny" tots, right, not "tune" tots? Tune Tots are a current speaker; Tiny Tots (WATTs) date back to the 1980s.
Wilson tiny tots My recollection of the Tiny Tots was that they were a location monitor made by Dave Wilson to monitor his recordings. They were described as (1) ruthlessly revealing with a somewhat rising treble, (2) difficult to drive (they went below 1 ohm at ... |
