Kondo DAC : Why no reviews ??
>>Agree that Kondo may not be hungry fro reviews but reviewers ? Are they not interested in a Kondo either ?<<Not if they have to buy the review sample, especially at the prices Kondo charges.
stepped attenuators
T_bone--that really is an early one! They did change over time, not only did they become stepped attenuators, but they also replaced the balance control by using a separate attenuator for each channel, which is a better way of doing balance betwee...
stepped attenuators
T_bone--I didn't install anything, the stock Jadis volume controls on these units (as opposed to the JPL, for example) are in essence stepped attenuators. I believe they operate using different resistors for each step.
stepped attenuators
I have had them for many years on my Jadis preamps, first the JP80 and then the JP200, and have gotten used to them. Since both of these preamps have separate volume controls for each channel (in the case of the 200, separate chassis as well), the...
Can Redbook CD Be Saved
Elizabeth-- When I went to college at Michigan, I was able to bring my burned out light bulbs to the Detroit Edison store in Ann Arbor to trade them for new light bulbs, no charge (yes, there was electricity back then). So maybe not as much a fant...
Should the best systems sound almost identical?
Agree with Frogman, having heard a number of them. Same with Guarneris; each of these instruments is unique.
Acoustic Zen Crescendo or Sony SS-AR1
Aside from the question about a consensus (with respect to which I agree with the above posts), is it just me who is bothered that the OP considers a speaker in the $30K price range to be a "budget" speaker?
Whats on your turntable tonight?
I find those Sheffield recordings to be remarkable in how they portray the timbre of the instruments as well as their dynamics. I'm not bothered by the lack of a hall sound; in a way, I think many of today's classical recordings are focusing too m...
Elgar enigma/ Picture at an exhibition
Listen to Frogman, Rush! He is a marvellous performer and a great teacher, as well!
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Joe, if the Albeniz you're referring to is that wonderful Decca recording of the Suite Espanola, I would be interested in your impressions as well. The Super Analog disc version sounds a bit tilted towards the bass frequencies in my system (as do ...
Flip flopped orchestra?
Just to be sure (because there was a recent post by someone with the same observation on a recording he was listening to), you didn't happen to be recently re-wiring your system and reversed the left and right channel interconnects by mistake, did...
Your best ''outstanding'' products in last 5 yrs?
I believe I got this within the past five years--a Yamaha MCX 1000 Music Server, I think the list was about $2000 with the larger memory stick. While it is not as good sonically as my (seven times more expensive) Nova Physics Memory Player, it sti...
ESS and Heil air-motion tranformer - any thoughts?
In response to Bill's post, I have heard the Adam speakers on one occasion, the $10K stand-mounted one with the powered woofers and the Heil type midrange and tweeter (I believe it is the smallest model in the Tensor series), and was extremely imp...
Bach's Toccata
There is reputedly (I'll have to check my copy) a 64 foot stop (8 Hz), possibly a resultant stop, on the organ that was recorded on The Power and The Glory that might be on the record. Prolonged exposure at high volumes to that note is not recomme...
Manufacurers I have known....
Great thread, thanks for sharing the stories with us!
