Best pressing of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto?
Well, remember that RCA was selling Heifetz more than the orchestra at the time, so they were a little guilty of spotlighting him, hence the "diminished" orchestra, IMHO.
Looking for best recording of The Nutracker on SACD
If you liked Dorati's interpretations on your reference (he doesn't conduct on all the tracks, apparently), you might like the Mercury Living Presence reissue on SACD of the piece, though he does have some fast tempi.
Help, My Vandies Sizzle
Older Vandys like those sounded absolutely beautiful with Quicksilver amps (I listened to that combination often at Audio Connection back even before Johnny R owned the place).  They also sounded good with Rotel amps of the time, so I'd be curious...
Best pressing of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto?
That Mutter/Karajan performance is now available on vinyl as well.
Appalachian Spring
That's probably the Columbia recording Rushton refers to.
Appalachian Spring
The RCA recording with Copland conducting was the one I grew up with, I still listen to it.  I thought I saw it reissued, maybe by Analog Productions, but I don't see it anywhere so maybe it's a possible future reissue.  The originals should be ou...
Tube Physics Question
Here's the link to VAC's take on the KT 120s:  http://vac-amps.com/vacBlog/category/technical-musings/I don't see anything there about compression, though.
Best pressing of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto?
I do like the Heifetz and the Kogan, and the reissues of those recordings are really quite good.  I always liked Perlman's version that I had on a Chesky CD reissue, that must have been a Reader's Digest release on vinyl, might be worth looking fo...
Best pressing of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto?
I certainly wouldn't start with Van Cliburn, as that's the piano concerto!  I'll look through my collection to see if there's any other recording on vinyl that I like as much as the RCA Heifetz..
Tube Physics Question
Kevin Hayes of VAC has also preferred the KT88s to the KT120s.   I believe his thoughts on the tubes, which include a technical discussion, are in a blog on his website.

For an amp, I'd suggest a Prima Luna integrated.  For the speakers, I don't know.  Not surprised by your observations, Pro Ac has always sounded forward to me, while Sonus Faber has always sounded musical and engaging.  For your size room, though,...
emm labs cdsa cd stuck in transport
I had a problem like this twice with mine (though I didn't hear the mechanism engaging, just seemed to be frozen), had to ultimately send it back to EMM each time, but the last time they said there would be no further parts for the repair.  You mi...

How big is your listening room?  These speakers need a LOT of room to sound their best.
Mark Levinson No. 20.6 vs. Krell KRS 200 vs. Krell KAS
One thing I'll note, at least from the reviewers at the time your 20.6s were made, was that the ML gear was always described by them as slightly "darker" sounding than Krell amplifiers.  I've always interpreted that to mean that the ML amps had a ...
Mark Levinson No. 20.6 vs. Krell KRS 200 vs. Krell KAS
The breaker should be pretty high in value, as the KRS draw a lot pf juice out of the wall when they are first powered up--the lights at my dealer dimmed when that happened, and I'm sure that a 15 and maybe even 20 amp breaker would have tripped. ...
