Day-Sequerra FM tuners
If no one else responds, check the auctions, there's one up for auction where the seller says it was just realligned and upgraded by David Day--maybe the seller can tell you. Then please report it here, as a few of us could use the info as well!
Museatex str55's amps worth exploring?
The Meitner products are really very good. They have a very full, rich tonal quality that many solid state amps lack, and terrific dynamics and ability to drive virtually all speakers. The only thing I'd point out is that the Meitner amps seem a l...
What about "Pro" vs. Audiophile ?????
Maybe we're trying to get closer to the music than the master tape. That may not necessarily be more revealing or accurate, but it is better if it connects us to the music better. Pro gear that I've heard just sounds sterile and uninvolving--give ...
What about "Pro" vs. Audiophile ?????
I'm trying to recreate an original musical event with my system so that I think I'm in the concert hall and can get lost in the music rather than a master tape. The recording engineer is trying to hear every bit of minutia that's on the master tap...
Stupid question from novice hi-fi person
Other thing to note, the 6 channel machine will decode the 6 (multi)-channel layers of SACDs that have that mix; the 2-channel machine does not have that capability.
Dunlavy SC-IVa how best driven
Since the impedence and sensitivity of the SC-IVAs and the Duntechs I had are quite similar, the 4-ohm taps should work fine with the Dunlavys (in fact, they were the best sounding taps on that amp in my view). As far as placement goes, your room ...
Dunlavy SC-IVa how best driven
I used ARC Classic 150s with my Duntech Princesses for years (John Dunlavy's design at Duntech that was the precursor of the SC-IV and IVA). Those amps had more than enough power for those speakers, and plenty of strength in the bass in particular...
Sony SCD 777ES Really that Good???
Atranz: You can. The Sony is a very good transport, and has a coax digital output which will send a 16/44 redbook signal (NOT a DSD signal, though). If you have a really good DAC, it can actually make CDs sound closer to SACD from the Sony's DAC, ...
Best Phono stage for a .3 mv Ruby 2 ?
Add to the high-priced choices the Lamm phono stage, which is dead quiet and has about 57db of gain, more than enough for my .2mv Koetsu. If you like the sound of the PH3, you could consider the MC version of the Herron, a very nice unit and avail...
In Search of Beatles Rock but not Pop
Some superb posts here, particularly Zaikesman, and a great thread. One aspect of the evolution of the Beatles' music which doesn't seem to be mentioned above is the emergence of "Album Rock" from the top 40 AM-based radio that took place starting...
What are the 5 most overrated rock albums?

What are the 5 most overrated rock albums?
I wish you'd stop sugar-coating your opinions, Twl! Despite that, I tend to think I lost interest in rock and gravitated more to classical by the mid 70s in part due to disco and the subsequent lack of interesting rock--even when my son was a teen...
Sony SCD 777ES Really that Good???
On redbook CD, I imagine your transport, as modified, and a GOOD dac, can outperform the Sony in its stock form, principally because the Sony's analog output stage sounds like, well, a Sony, good but not great. Figure the sound quality of the Sony...
NBS Monitor I vs NBS Omega I - worth the upgrade?
Can't comment on the I, but I went from Monitor 0 to Omega (the top of the line Omega), and I believe the differences are supposed to be similar throughout the line. Differences were a more extended, but less thick bass region, which gives the cab...
Cheap Sony SACD players: best STOCK/MODified
With respect to Rgd's point on the problem with multi-channel discs, I can report no problems so far with my modded 777ES, which is a two-channel player, knock on wood. By the way, my friend is now looking seriously into mods--I had not been able ...
