PS Audio's Ultimate Outlet
It's the only power conditioner/surge protector I've tried that doesn't seem to degrade the sound from my Jadis preamp (JP80, which has a separate power supply), which normally sounds best plugged in the wall. I don't really think I hear any great...
Tube/Solid State Bi-Amplification
I also bi-amp, but my speakers come with an active outboard crossover splitting the bass and treble signal at about 200hz (it's a 4-piece system). The only things I'd like to add to Ljgj's fine post are that (1) the input sensitivity of the differ...
Which comm. speaker mfgr. makes the best cabinet?
Hey Bob, now you're not mixing the speakers up with their sailboats, are you? Sugarbrie, how could a place so close to where they call a milkshake a Frappe have come up with such a name??Back on thread, while I have not heard them, the Wilson-Bene...
Which comm. speaker mfgr. makes the best cabinet?
I nominate Avalon. The inertness of the cabinets and their beveled shapes (particularly around the tweeter, where they have managed to sculpt the cabinet so the tweeter portion has a baffle the size of a mini-monior's, if that) are principal reaso...
What venues are best for selling used equipment?
I've sold items on this site and (in the past) through the Audiomart publication, in all cases with no problems. This site will be faster. A lot of nice folks in both venues.
Why the lack of interest in Accuphase?
I think that the main reason might be that the integrated amp you're selling isn't that well-known, although you might have problems selling one of their better-known CD or SACD players as well, due to the price and format uncertainty, as Chuck no...
Tubes for Herron's Preamp
What speakers do you have now, and what are your listening preferences, room size, etc.? The Micro Utopias and Mezzo Utopias are my favorites in that line, as they work better in more rooms because they don't have the deep bass and size of the big...
Tubes for Herron's Preamp
I agree with Tweety, Keith spoke to our audio society about the preamp a few years ago and said the same thing about the tubes. Felt the Sovteks were very strong tubes and worked best in his circuit.
It's a Bad Movie, But It Was Fun to Watch Anyway
Twl, you are correct, that's where Dan D'Agostino came up with the name--supposedly beings of unlimited power, like his amps. I remember the Giant Claw from my youth, it was indeed hilarious, and Monty Python is an absolute classic, but I don't th...
It's a Bad Movie, But It Was Fun to Watch Anyway
My son and I went to the movies EVERY weekend, without fail, from the time he was 5 years old through high school. He's now an unemployed cinematographer, go figure. We loved the B movies, loved Mystery Science Theater, and must have seen every ba...
Is e-mail system working?
I've gotten responses to my ads in the last few days, so I think the system is working.
Sibelius Symphonies
I believe that Barbirolli also did a recording of the Second for the Readers Digest series that was reissued both on vinyl and CD by Chesky that I enjoy quite a bit. Sugarbrie, glad to see you're in good shape. I imagine viewing that storm will no...
Best looking / worst looking amps & preamps
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Jadis equipment, which is nice eye candy. Lamm is great equipment, but given its price it has to go in the ugly category, at least the amps.
Any phono sections with adjustments on fly/front?
The old ARC SP-11 (and probably the 10 too) had loading you could adjust with a knob on the front panel. Probably a little pricey, though, even used.
mas black speaker cables/URGENT
Can't comment on the speaker cable, but I do agree with Bigkidz, I used a 40 foot run of their black interconnect for many years and it was a good, solid cable. Its errors were more of subtraction (i.e., loss of low level detail) than any particul...
