What is a good intro to "Mahler"? Ethannnn, try also to get the Klemperer Mahler 4, available currently from the mail order dealers as one of the EMI reissues (Testament?). And hey, if your speakers don't go too far below 50hz, maybe the Cisco will be listenable?
What is a good intro to "Mahler"? Only Mahler 5 I know of out on vinyl now is the Solti Super Analog Disc version available through Cisco Records, but as I mentioned in an earlier post it is extremely bass-heavy in this format. Try the used record shops or e-bay, I guess.
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend? I think I may have heard of this one long ago, but a gentleman pulled it on me last night and damned if it didn't work! When playing a CD, put the player or transport on pause for a few seconds before you start playing it (or if you want to see if...
sacd vs xrcd Dandreescu, in answer to your question, I've now heard the Pines/Fountains of Rome, Sheherezade, and Heifietz Mendelssohn Violin Concerto XRCDs on my system, and will probably get some more, as they are very good, giving up some ultimate ease and ...
sacd vs xrcd I too have had the same experience as Czbbcl. I think you cannot keep out of the equation that the xrcds (which I agree sound stunningly good, but I still prefer the vinyl so I haven't bought many) are made from master tapes of some of the greates...
Taking the bad with the good I have heard a system consisting of Krell's current top of the line CD player/preamp, an FPB 300 and Sonus Faber Amati Heritage speakers that sounded like the left channel was down 20db, with no bass below 100hz, and no life at all. This was in a ...
The return of "Bubble Man" Actually, Jetter, use helium--it'll promote a lighter presentation, and will also further isolate from vibrations by lifting the shelf off the rack and into mid-air. Plus you can amuse your friends with your funny voice if you inhale any of it.All...
What is the best 12ax7 NOS tube ????????? It really depends on the circuit and your taste. My preference is Telefunkens, which are a smooth-sounding tube and seem made for my Jadis equipment; old Mullards are also quite good, although in my Jadis (and my Audio Logic DAC) they sounded a sh...
ARC VT 200 mkl vs the ARC VT 100 mkll Well, it intrigued me enough to go to the ARC website. I can't tell, unfortunately, if the VT200 MkI has the input stage of the VT200 MkII and the VT100 MkIII. The use of the J-FET and 6H30 input tubes in the input stage is the major improvement I...
Mahler...OK I'm hooked For the 4th, I'm partial to the Klemperer on EMI (available on reissued vinyl as well as a good CD), as well as the Solti. For the 5th, if you go for the Solti, I'd probably steer clear of the Super Analog reissue if you have speakers with deep ba...
Using a tube amp with a Solid State preamp Marakanetz and Newbee--you're right, I had it backwards. Thanks for the correction.
Using a tube amp with a Solid State preamp I'm reaching back into my memory here, and I may have this wrong, perhaps an engineer can help, but many solid state preamps have comparatively low output impedances, while tube amps have very high input impedances. Normally you would want the out...
Has anyone heard a Gryphon S-100? I'll check my old Stereophiles, but it wasn't a pretty review, and as I said it was completely at variance with my experiences with the amp. Did you check the S-phile site to see if it's in the archives?
Has anyone heard a Gryphon S-100? I heard an S100 on two occasions back in the early 90s. It was driving both Avalon Ascents (very well) and the notoriously power-hungry mbl 101s (Belfran's post shows the power this thing has, he's spot on), and quite frankly was the best sounding...
How do YOU justify this hobby? I just tell them I love music and I'm obsessive/compulsive about it. They add that I'm nuts... I think your explanation might work better. |
