Can I use my passive preamp with tube amps? In terms of impedance matching, a passive will in most cases work better with tube amps, they are simply easier loads to drive. What is the input sensitivty of you amps? What is the output volatage of the DAC? In all likelyhood, it will be a very ...
ARC Ref 1, 2, 3 Preamps Any new thoughts?
What SS amps would work well with Shindo preamp? The First Watt Aleph J (Pass) is made for tube preamps with high output impedances and its 30 watts should be more than enough power to drive those speakers. Besides being a very tube pre friendly load, it also happens to be a great sound amplifier.
Would Shindo Aurieges L pre work with a Forte 4 am It might work, but not ideal. I would call the importer, it is a pre you have to be careful with on the impedance matching issue. I suspect thought, that it would work.
Would Shindo Aurieges L pre work with a Forte 4 am What is the input impedance of the Forte, that could be a problem if it is too low, the Aurieges needs and pretty high input impedance on the amp side to work it best, typically tube amps.
Review: Bent Audio Tap Linestage Casouza, were your "regular" TVCs using the S&Bs? I own the Bent Tap-X, and once owned a TVC with S&B 102 MKIIIs. I just never had the opprotunity to A/B, but most comments I have heard, seem to prefer the autoformers in terms of sound.
Isolation suggestions for amplifer Using another room for the equipment and running long cables proabably works; if you have a lot of time on your hands.
Isolation suggestions for amplifer Is it possible to isolate from airborne vibration? Seems like you would have to drain that somehow. This reminds me of a really old thread....the isolationist versus the drainers. I just use a solid spiked stand with 2" Maple Blocks beneath each p...
Are There Any Good, High Power Solid State Amps? I agree with TVAD, the Pass XA60.5 should easily be able to drive that speaker. It also sounds like almost any tube amp would have difficulty with that impedance dip in the bass, there are some that could handle it, but it is not an ideal load for...
Joule LA 100 mkIII and Bat VK 60? Yes, the Music Reference RM10, which is being sold now for $1,495 for a limited time runs EL84 and it was a marvelous amp with the Merlins. Absolutely a good idea, that EL84, probaly someting by Manley would also be worth looking into, I think the...
Joule LA 100 mkIII and Bat VK 60? I would ask Bobby P. I suspect this would not be an ideal amp with the Merlins. Yes, the Berning Z270 would be great. I would look for an EL34 based amp for the Merlins if I could not go the OTL route.
Tube amps that kick ass? I think of the rock bass you are looking for is actually frequencies above the subwoofers in the 5A, a lot of apparent bass is above 30Hz so you still do need a good tube for rockin bass. The best bass I have heard from a tube amp was the CAT JL2 ...
SET vs OTL I have owned CAT JL2, Quicksilver V4, Pass XA30.5, Ars Sonum integrated and Music Reference RM9 Special Edition amps with my VSM-MXes, and the M-60s are my clear favorites with the these speakers. Which means they are pretty good.
Review: Bent Audio Tap Linestage Anyone heard the slagle version? Any comparisons?
Help getting a Tube Amp I think there is not likely to be any SET that will work with you speakers, I think you need 50-60 watts. I also own Atma-sphere amps and they are great, with the right speaker. Don't know your speaker, but ask Ralph at Atma-spher what he thinks, ... |
