Autoformer versus Transformer Passives? Hi Anthony. I stand corrected. Have you heard any of the Slagle transformers stuff?
Atma-Sphere S-30 MK3 Update..... Which 6AS7s are you using?
Autoformer versus Transformer Passives? I had an S&B MKIII based passive made by K&K, but it was too long agon and the system context was different. I got the Bent based on user comments here and Teajay's review of the TAP. There seems to be the view that the Slagle autoformer s...
Quicksilver amp owners I've owned the 8417s and the V4s. They were mighty fine amps. One thing you will notice that is that many QS owners seem to be pretty loyal to the brand, among other reasons they tend not to breakdown.
Autoformer versus Transformer Passives? I think the isolation is the one theoretical advantage. There does seem to be less "stuff" in the autoformer which would seem to be a plus. I wonder if this bares out in listening impressions. All I know is the TAP-X sounds great, but I never was ...
CAT Legend vs WAVAC PR-T1 ? I won't argue for SS, but after having owned CAT,LAMM,ARC,DODD, and JOULE, I have settled on the BENT TAP passive, it competes with anything out there if you have a good set up for passive. I would not call that SS though. I've not heard the CAT L...
CAT Legend vs WAVAC PR-T1 ? Agree with Bombaywalla, "eating through tubes" is a thing of the past with CAT; certaily with the Ulitmates and later. It is important to no let myth affect reality, especially in these difficult economic times. The CAT both sounds great and is ea...
Review: Ars Sonum Filarmonia SE Tube amp Any further thoughts from Ars Sonum fans?
90db, 7ohm speakers: tube amp recommendations? Quicksilvers are wonderful amps, no doubt. I have owne three over the years. But with this speaker, I do think the Music Reference RM10 MKII, will be a very bit as good, as reliable as they get, extremely long tube life, very cheap tube replacemen...
90db, 7ohm speakers: tube amp recommendations? Agree with SBank. The Atma-spheres would work great. Or, for a bit less, and currently selling for only $1,450 on sale, the Music Reference MR10 MKII - 35 watts with EL84 tubes - both great designers and wonderful gear. Can't tell you which you wo...
Best speaker for vocals The Harbeth's are pretty darn good for voice. If you wanted to make a change to a different speaker that excels on voice but might be a bit more full range I would look at the Merlin VSM-MXe which for my taste the best speaker I have heard if you ...
Which has greatest influence? I would say the amp/speaker match is the most critical, get that wrong it doesn't matter. Get that right and most decent preamps and sources will be ok, and only better as you upgrade, but nothing will ruin things faster than an amp and speaker th...
VAC Avatar SE vs. Ars Sonum w Merlin MMs? bump any thoughts
DAC, preamp, amp - picking the right ones I agree you are likely to need SS. I too like the integrated approach. I think the new Pass integrated is worthy on your short list. Pass tends to be on the warmer side of neutral. Plinius too is a good suggestion. If integrated is out of the ques...
Bent Audio TAP-X vs. older TAP / Muisic First Ultrafitimes, in what ways did you prefer the autoformers to the transformers? How was it better? |
