What pre amp to use in my system? There is a Transcendent preamp up for sale for $450. Don't know the preamp, but their amps have an excellent reputation. Also don't know the output impedance of the pre and the input impeadance of the Rotel, but you would want at lest a 1:10 ratio...
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states Duke, Ralph, Unsound, thank you for the dialogue - very interesting indeed.
I think I've made up my mind Since higher input impedance always appears to be better, why don't SS desingers provide 100kohm input impedances. I would think the problem is that to do so requires a tradeoff they are not willing to make, but I don't know what that might be -- ...
Question for Merlin VSM/ARS Sonum owners Stick with the JJ EL34L (and I think you really need to stick with the "L"s though the standard 34s will work)and the Jan Phillips that come with the amp. The EL34Ls have quite a bit more bottom end the EL34s and the amp is voiced with that in mind.
Pass Labs A/B amps vs Class A amp and Actual Power As Elberoth sugggests, the XA.5 series is very conservatively rated, I can tell you that having owned the XA30.5 I would discuss it with Pass Labs, if they tell you it should be no problem, you can trust them.
I think I've made up my mind Well, I guess we can say the ARC Ref3 may be dull and bland with Pass XA.4 amps, and that might very well be true with that combination. I've just heard the preamp sound anything but dull and bland which makes me think it is not an inherent qualit...
Atma-sphere 3.0 to 3.1 That is good input (no pun intended) on output voltage. My CD player puts out 2v or 3.6v with a switch, and of course I can listen at the 12-2 position with the lower gain. Will you ever be demoing the "integrated" at a show (RMAF?).
Rogue vs ARC Don, I feel very much at peace. And true, it is a forum for opinion. But you stated that the Rogue is cheaply built, question is if that is true? It's important because statements like that can affect a companies reputation, and it ends up getting...
Rogue vs ARC Don_c55, no doubt ARC is a much more established company and long-lasting for good reason - it is unquestionably one of the great companies, with some of thebest products in the history of hifi, but that doesn't speak to your claims that the Rogue...
Slagle AVC Modules & Lightspeed Attenuator The two make quite a pair with their respective techncial skills.
Rogue vs ARC Any legitimacy to the statement that the Rogue is made cheaply? Not a question of sound here, but parts, fit, trim etc. Even if so does not mean they do not sound as good as ARC, but is it really a lower level of construction (something worth payi...
Slagle AVC Modules & Lightspeed Attenuator I know George is reading this and will send me the most tightly matched LDRs in the history of LDRs:). Think I will get the Bent AVC again.
Focal Mini Utopia vs Merlin MXe The Bent/RM10/9 is anything but thin, that word does not cross my mind. The RM9 is a little warmer than the 10, but they are very much the work of the same designer, now 162 watts (on my RM9 SE) or (125 watts on the standard RM9 is still quite a b...
are subwoofers anti-audiophile? I remember going over to put my ear next to the Vandersteen 2wqs to see if they were on, they were, but you could hardly tell, only when taking them out of the system did you notice what they did for bass. The Vandersteen subs with the 3A or 2C bl...
Slagle AVC Modules & Lightspeed Attenuator That's long enough:) |
