EL84 amp Vs. EL34 amp Lou, I have the RM9 Special Edition $9,500) and the RM10MKII ($1950) and can tell you that is 30 watts is enough power the RM10 is about as good as the come and you find them for $1,000 used - you also get 10,000 hours of tube life and they are re...
EL84 amp Vs. EL34 amp I agree.
EL84 amp Vs. EL34 amp I think Nolitan has captured the generalizations precisely. But do remember that the ciruit can influence those difference quite a bit. I have an EL84 and EL34 amp from the same manufacturer, in his circuit the EL34 sounds more like the typical EL...
Atma Sphere S30 amp When you get a chance, e-mail me details about your passive and your thoughts behind it.
Do any amps have 6 ohm taps for 6 ohm impedance? If you have a 6ohm speaker you need to use the 4ohm tap, If you only have an 8ohm tap on a tube amp, I think you will be running the tubes alot harder than they should and with increased distortion to boot. Most, not all, tube amps should have a 4...
Wadia 381 vs. dcs Puccini vs. EmmLabs CDSA SE I've never heard of an unhappy Puccini owner. I think I'll wait till the current digital processing is obsolete before making the next move though. I somehow think the next move will involve some kind of music server and DAC. I assume there will b...
Atma Sphere S30 amp Anthony, you are light loading, you might want to discuss with Roger, but I suspect if you us the 4ohm tap you will get even less distortion, more current, and tubes will run much cooler and last even more than the expected 10,000 hours. I also su...
Atma Sphere S30 amp Don't sell the RM10, you'll only buy it again later. Anthony, are you light loading the RM10? Using the 4ohm tap? Try it, you'll like it.
Wadia 381 vs. dcs Puccini vs. EmmLabs CDSA SE Funny, your description of the dcs, sound like I what I would say of the EMM. Guess it is best to listen to both and decide for yourself if you are considering the purchase of either, or the Wadia for that matter.
Pass Labs & Belles class-A amplifiers The manual, see page 12 http://www.passlabs.com/pdf/product%20manuals/xa30_5-om.pdfsays 15kohm, and also my recollection in discussion with them. The XA60.5 manual says the same thing. But, either way, I still think it will work fine with most tub...
Who is using passive preamps and why? The issue of dynamics is sometimes commented on when discussing passives, but I'm not even sure what that means. Does it mean that passives sound compressed, homogenizing the differences between soft and loud volumes in a performance? I'm not sure...
Pass Labs & Belles class-A amplifiers My XA30.5 defintely said it was 15kohm unbalanced, maybe the monoblocks have higher impedance? I would ask Pass Labs. If it is 20kohm, slighly better yet for tube pres, but I do think you use many tube preamps even with the 15kohm rating if that i...
Atma-sphere 3.0 to 3.1 Ralph, what did you do my M60 amps? Sounds like I have a subwoofer!!!! I've never the acoustic bass sound so good, so present, and with such scale coming from my tiny 6 1/2" woofers. The upgrade, whatever it was, was well worth it.
Pass Labs & Belles class-A amplifiers Weebeesdad, I think it is just a matter of taste, and to some extent the speaker you are using. My speakers don't need much current or damping, the shine and sound their best with tubes. If I were using Thiel 3.7s I'm almost positive I would prefe...
Thiel 3.6's vs. Vandersteen 3 sigs Both companies make great speakers. Just does not seem that bashing from either side makes any sense to me. They both shine with the right electronics, and no doubt the choice would be different depending on which brand you went for. |
