Spotify Premium vs Tidal ... opinions?
Spotify premium sounds darn good on my system- Sonus Faber Liutos, MFA Luminescence pre-amp. and MFA mono amplifiers- tube electronics. Tidal also sounded darn good, but at twice the price it simply is not worth it to me. Both offer an enormous am...
Break in time: Pioneer SW-8MK2 Subwoofer?
Latest, and likely final update:Once I was satisfied with the placement of a single sub- I introduced a second Pioneer sub into the system. Yes, two is better than one. I've got both units set @ 55hz and the gain dialed in at about 11:00 AM on the...
Wells Audio Akasha Amplifier- Any owners here?
I greatly appreciate all the responses. My amplifiers are MFA M-120 B. 4 KT88's in each. They have been significantly upgraded but not maxed out. They are paired with an MFA Luminescence pre-amp which HAS been maxed out by Mr. Frankland.I've enjoy...
Most overrated audio manufacturers?
The ones that make your ears bleed in spite of what the reviewers and the fanboys postulate.
Best beer
For me, with rare exception, the only beers that matters are India Pale Ales. One beyond excellent examples are Russian River's Pliny The Elder. I would also include Elysians's Space Dust and Deschutes Fresh Squeezed on my personal short list.As an...
Small room; Audio Physic Scorpio or WB Trinity??
While I'm not familiar with your speakers I hope this is relevant to your situation.I had to move my system from a fairly large living room to an adjacent room which is much smaller- 11' w x 13' l. I tried using my 44" 3-way floor standing speaker...
Break in time: Pioneer SW-8MK2 Subwoofer?
Over 80 hours of break-in at this point and I'm quite pleased. Subwoofer volume level is set low enough that it doesn't call attention to itself. Crossover @ 55hz seems optimum for most of my listening. I'll report back once I've got 200 hours on ...
Fess Up How much have you spent on this Hobby??
Don't ask. Don't tell.
Wells Audio Akasha Amplifier- Any owners here?
Scott Frankland is closely involved with design and production of the Wells amps, which makes me figure that they are very, very good indeed.Only a home trial will tell me if the Akasha is a good choice in my system, but I'm hoping to get as much ...
"forward' vs "laid back" speakers
The number of variables in our hobby is almost infinite. I think a lot of audiophiles have channeled (no pun intended) obsessive-compulsive impulses into the pursuit of their, or somebody else's definition of "the absolute sound."If I had deep poc...
Floor Stander with Small Footprint 7K - 15K
Chapman T-7. The latest version. Extremely musical and balanced. Easy to drive. No affiliation except I have owned an older pair for many years. Stuart is passionate about his craft and is great to deal with. He's been quietly building world-class...
Break in time: Pioneer SW-8MK2 Subwoofer?
"If you can, try the sub in a bigger room. Your current room is probably too small to reproduce very low sound waves."The listening room rear wall has a 7' opening to the much larger living room. There's also a doorway to the adjacent kitchen and ...
Break in time: Pioneer SW-8MK2 Subwoofer?
Thank you all for your responses. I played the test frequencies on the Stereophile test CD and with the Pioneer, 40 hz is somewhat audible but actually more "felt" than heard. The Sonus Faber Liutos are producing the 50 hz tone on that CD but at g...
Break in time: Pioneer SW-8MK2 Subwoofer?
Mt10425:I started with a pair of the subs, which I found confusing, so in the interest of simplification, I unplugged one. I've been trying to determine optimum placement and settings in my room, and so far have not found the sweet spots. :) Where...
Rock and roll speakers?
I think a critical element is the room, especially size, in which you plan to rock out. If your speakers overdrive the room, the sound will likely be at best, unpleasant. And at worst, unlistenable.
