Looking for really fine cables at really low price Further comments on IC's with my WE speaker wires. I tried a pair of ancient van den Hul D300S from my Luminescence preamp to the NAD C272 amp, into Magnepan MMGs.Initial impression was one of detail and "lightness". After a few days, overall soun...
Cables more hype than value? "Value." Isn't that usually in the ear of the listener? Hype? Sure, reams and reams of hype, not only regarding cables, but for a lot of high-end audio, period.A friend of mine uses all Shunyata cables in his reference system. These wires alone co...
High Fidelity Cables -- A revelatory experience “Sometimes we find audible magic by a serendipitous leap of faith which lets us overcome some aprioristic skepticism that otherwise prevented us from even auditioning an electronic component, a speaker, or a set of wires." Cheap at any price. 'aud...

Looking for really fine cables at really low price DIY "anti-cable", aka magnet wire.I've assembled IC's as well as speaker cables. I purchased some surplus 12 awg, 18 awg, and 20 awg which were modest monetary investments and which yielded great results. YMMV
Designer Hall of Fame Bruce Moore and Scott Frankland MFARoy GandyJim WineyI have limited personal experience with most of the great names in audio because I rarely change components. I've loved my MFA Luminescence preamp for well over 20 years. The Lumi has been upgra...
mapleshade ic's... My brother purchased a couple of pairs. He sent them back because A) they sounded bright in his system. B) they were extremely fragile, and a PITA to use.YMMV
Personal amp evolution A recent epiphany of sorts. For many years I've been happy with a pair of MFA M120 B tube mono amps paired with dynamic speakers, Chapman T7's and Sonus Faber Liutos. I recently acquired Magnepan MMG's and the tube amps just didn't cut it. I was un...
TUBE AMP LOVERS - What SS amp makes you smile??? Tubegroover wrote:"Ps your example with the NAD underscores Minorl's point of accurately driving the speakers. My bet is that the NAD is more electrically compatible with the MMGs than your tube amps. One can often be surprised by results that are...
TUBE AMP LOVERS - What SS amp makes you smile??? First: I think Minorl's comments are spot on.Now, to my recent experience. For many years I've been running an all-tube system using upgraded MFA electronics. For those who are familiar with MFA, you know what I'm talking about. The other day, on a...
Which desktop speakers to buy $800 I have Audioengine A5+'s and they just get better with play time. If you can be patient, keep listening. I am completely pleased and have no desire to look elsewhere. The A5's are perfect for me. YMMV.
Hegel H80 vs H160 An interesting and timely - for me- thread. For the first time in decades, I'm considering retiring my terrific all-tube electronics, downsizing, going a bit "greener", and Hegel keeps appearing on a short list of excellent integrated amplifiers. ...
