Townshend Audio Podiums: The Full Review
Good report on the Townshend products, millercarbon!
If you don't have a wide sweet spot, are you really an audiophile?
roadwhorerecords:Personality, i think the self imposed title of "audiophile" is a narcissistic badge of fools. Not sure how you get "narcissism" from someone saying he is an audiophile. It’s just descriptive. It’s not like audiophiles are celebrate...
If you don't have a wide sweet spot, are you really an audiophile?
I've always liked great soundstaging and a wide sweet spot in terms of tonality, so virtually all my speakers have had that feature (including of course the MBLs I owned until recently - and the Waveform Mach MC monitors I just sold were insanely ...
Thiel Owners
Thanks very much for the info Tom.  That's what I figured.  I don't have much urge to take the grills off my 2.7s.I do find my Joseph speakers benefit somewhat with grills off in terms of opening up the high end and delivering all they are capable...
Thiel Owners
@tomthielI can't remember where I got this information, but I seem to recall that Thiel speakers were designed with the grills in mind.   That is, they are voiced with the grill on and thus ideally should be used that way.Is that correct?I've neve...
Cube Audio Nenuphar Single Driver Speaker (10 inch) TQWT Enclosure
charles,Yes I'm aware of that, which is one reason I'm so curious to hear the Cube Audio speakers.   And that is why I found it surprising that the "lowther" signature including the upper mid/lower treble peak on vocal sibilance etc, seemed to be ...
Cube Audio Nenuphar Single Driver Speaker (10 inch) TQWT Enclosure
The Cube Audio speakers really intrigue me.That said, I find it interesting that in almost every youtube video demo of the speakers,  it seems like the lowther character comes through, a sort of thinness with a peaky upper frequency highlighting v...
Spendor D9.2 vs. Harbeth super hl5 plus xd + REL Stentor III vs. Spendor Classic 100?
I don't really see the Spendor D series sitting comfortably with the Harbeth or Classic Spendor speakers.   The D series floor standing speakers are, to my ears, "Spendors" in name only: otherwise they are simply modern speakers and sound like it....
Hales Transcendence 5 speakers endgame?
Thanks daveyf,I would have some confidence in the sound of the Alexandra.   Paul was really focused on timbral accuracy and smoothness at that period, and his transcendence speakers - all metal drivers - where a marvel.  I can't imagine he'd sudde...
Hales Transcendence 5 speakers endgame?
I think the T8s are end-game level speakers.  I found a guy selling a great pair a few years ago and would have tried them out, but their size just didn't fit where I'd have to put them in my room.BTW,  some Hales fans may be aware that just befor...

Ah so you had the 3.7s before and have bought them again?
Thiel Owners
Wow, in Amberwood too!  That's awesome thieliste! Can you remind me: which Thiels have you owned?
Something about Thiel CS 3.7
Curio,I'm a long time Thiel fan, had listened to the 3.7s, the 2.4 at one point long ago, had the CS6, 2.7 and 3.7s.The 3.7s are the best speaker Thiel ever made, truly a culmination of his engineering talent and what he'd learned up to that point...
Hales Transcendence 5 speakers endgame?
I love Hales speakers. The T8s are still one of the best speakers I’ve ever heard (it was my favorite when debuted at CES) and I owned the T5s for a number of years.Paul Hales had a magical way with those drivers, making such a coherent, lush sound...
What makes speaker's sound big?
Wide baffles seem to help.Classic-shaped Spendor and Harbeth speakers for instance sound richer and fuller than most. And certainly the Devore O series speakers sound way bigger and richer than their size would imply.
