My hearing issue is improving enough to get bits of listening in on my system (not too loud). And on that note: I visited my pal’s place today because he currently has in the new Vivid Kiya speakers. He has many thousands of bucks worth of Nordost ...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
digital is getting pretty good these days. I think digital got beyond pretty good to excellent long ago.I had a Meridian 508.20 cd player in the 90's and onward, and it sounded beautiful and quite "analog."  Today I use a Benchmark DAC and it soun...

@thielrulesMusic Reference Amp designer, Roger Modjeski, has been pointing out on a thread in the amps forum something I think we often forget: that most audiophiles often overestimate how much amp power they actually need. Most are barely using t...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
I was really just too lazy to bother dumping or selling my old LPs I accumulated while growing up.  They sat at my mother's place for years so they were available when I decided to re-visit them.

Hi Chadsort.I’m not going to try solving your problem for you, as I don’t have the expertise with turntables others have. Though I’m a long time audiophile and have owned a turntable for many years, it’s only very recently that I dove in with much...
Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open.
Thanks again, Roger.Cary has had notoriously bad measuring amplifiers for as long as I can remember. They have long been the poster-boy amps when people want to argue the "measures awful, but sounds great" stance. Personally, it’s been far too lon...
Joseph Audio RM-33LE vs DeVore Gibbon 8, my experience.
Cool. So, uberwaltz, what's your assessment of the Joseph speakers vs the Gibbons at this point?

@cd318In fact, not just my audio outlook, I had to re-evaluate some of my other priorities too. Shock, horror, I'm beginning to wonder just how much Hi-Fi means to me in the ultimate scheme of things. Perhaps I have been a tad obsessive and tun...

Since you listen at such low levels both amps are playing no power at all and thus both have very little distortion. Are there some yes/no questions I could answer. It hard for me to see exactly what you are getting at. Thanks for the reply!I’m st...

What a terrific thread!  Thank you Roger!I hope you can answer a couple questions that have long baffled me about the sound of some amplifiers - in this case, using my own as example.Earlier in the thread, you mentioned how the impedance interacti...

Nice review uberwaltz.Personally I wouldn't be keeping a speaker that had to be played that loud (Josephs) to sound good to me, as I generally don't listen that loud.  But if you do listen that loud, then, I guess they fit the bill.(I like the Jos...

(Old thread, but...)Agreed on Harbeth re-sale.   It's one of the reasons I rolled the dice to try the Harbeth SuperHL5Plus speakers.  I knew I could re-sell them easily.Tried them for a month or so.  They were great, but the speakers I still owned...
Magico A3 vs. Joseph Audio Perspective vs. Spendor D9
otinkyadI auditioned lower tier revel.  3 Models, I think.  The Performa3 F208 twice.  The first time at one store the Performa3 F208 did not impress at all.  Second store (might have been the next model up, but it might have been the Revel Perfor...
Magico A3 vs. Joseph Audio Perspective vs. Spendor D9
@freesoleI do find the Perspectives to be somewhat polarizing though which is funny. People who enjoy the Perspective’s, love them. Those that do not feel strongly against them as they did not perform the way that they expected them to. Very littl...

tom,I remember way back when I had the CS6s at my place, they were the most luxurious speaker in terms of fit and finish I'd ever had.  The wood finish was simply gorgeous, a fairly dark brown with strong grain - I forget the name of the finish (m...
