With all the Bryston love, I'm sure a tube-head's opinion isn't welcome.But....For my own personal taste, I had the Bryston 4BST for a number of years just to be able to test on a variety of speakers - an amp I could always throw in that would dri...
MBL 126 or 120
cool. The 126 would be a little small for my taste if used alone (the 121 is bigger, goes lower, and is fairly satisfying on it's own).   The 120, if you could swing it, would likely be the more satisfying overall, given it's a slightly bigger vers...
MBL 126 or 120
@samuelmetzgerI love the MBL 121s.I had been a fan of MBL for many years but they’d always been way beyond my budget, especially the big 101s. I happened on a deal for a used pair of 121s about 9 years ago and grabbed them. I particularly loved th...
One speaker observation from the New York Hifi show.
If you have a dedicated listening room, understand the physical properties of sound reproduction, and have access to sound conditioning materials, it is almost always possible to gain "three dimensional" imaging. And it is spectacular when so achi...
MBL 126 or 120
I have the MBL 121 speakers, which are the model that preceded the 120 and similar in size. FWIW, here’s some info from a pdf on the specs. Impedance: 4 ohm MBL states 4 ohms for all their speakers. Though I’d consult the stereophile review of the...
Totem Forest Signature v. Joseph Audio Profile
shubert,Then you’ve received a golden sample where they deviated from their norm ;-)I’ve heard many Totem speakers over the years (local dealer has sold the line as long as I can remember). And they all had that same sonic signature. A perceptible...
Video Interview with Livio Cucuzza, Chief Industrial Designer of the McIntosh Group
Interesting, thanks.I've enjoyed some of the Sonus Faber speakers.  But I've been aghast at how reliably awful the McIntosh speakers sound (the ones with the multiple mid drivers).  I can't imagine the same designers are behind both speakers.
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
Indeed n80.  If one wants to get a sense of to what degree goeffkait understands blind testing, all you have to do is read what he keeps writing about it ;-)
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
cleeds,I generally agree with your point.Blind tests can be tedius...and difficult.  So one really has to have the motivation to bother with them.  That's why I've only bothered doing them occasionally.   Some gear lends itself to more easy blind ...
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
Was he an audiophile? No, but if he'd been around today, he probably would have sold cables audiophiles ;-)
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
I think P. T. Barnum has something to say on this.
Totem Forest Signature v. Joseph Audio Profile
@soix Ha, same boat as me.  I don’t know if you followed my long thread demoing many speakers where I narrowed it down to the DeVore 0/93 or JA Perspectives.  I’d saved for over a year to buy speakers, had finally decided on the Perspectives, was ...
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
ricmci,You pay what you want to pay. Nobody is forcing you to write a check or hand over your credit card.I don’t see the point of your replies. No one is arguing that anyone here is being forced to buy super expensive cables. And of course there ...
Totem Forest Signature v. Joseph Audio Profile
soix,We are clearly both fans of the JA audio sound.  And yet I don't own them (yet).  I forget:  Do you own JA speakers?
Totem Forest Signature v. Joseph Audio Profile
Yes both the Totem brand and the Joseph brand do "holographic" sound. The difference I would say is that the JA speakers tend to be more accurate, closer to flat, and thus more "neutral" sounding.  The Totems tend to have the "Totem dip" in the upp...
