Video Interview with Livio Cucuzza, Chief Industrial Designer of the McIntosh Group
Interesting, thanks.I've enjoyed some of the Sonus Faber speakers.  But I've been aghast at how reliably awful the McIntosh speakers sound (the ones with the multiple mid drivers).  I can't imagine the same designers are behind both speakers.
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
Indeed n80.  If one wants to get a sense of to what degree goeffkait understands blind testing, all you have to do is read what he keeps writing about it ;-)
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
cleeds,I generally agree with your point.Blind tests can be tedius...and difficult.  So one really has to have the motivation to bother with them.  That's why I've only bothered doing them occasionally.   Some gear lends itself to more easy blind ...
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
Was he an audiophile? No, but if he'd been around today, he probably would have sold cables audiophiles ;-)

I think P. T. Barnum has something to say on this.
Totem Forest Signature v. Joseph Audio Profile
@soix Ha, same boat as me.  I don’t know if you followed my long thread demoing many speakers where I narrowed it down to the DeVore 0/93 or JA Perspectives.  I’d saved for over a year to buy speakers, had finally decided on the Perspectives, was ...
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
ricmci,You pay what you want to pay. Nobody is forcing you to write a check or hand over your credit card.I don’t see the point of your replies. No one is arguing that anyone here is being forced to buy super expensive cables. And of course there ...
Totem Forest Signature v. Joseph Audio Profile
soix,We are clearly both fans of the JA audio sound.  And yet I don't own them (yet).  I forget:  Do you own JA speakers?
Totem Forest Signature v. Joseph Audio Profile
Yes both the Totem brand and the Joseph brand do "holographic" sound. The difference I would say is that the JA speakers tend to be more accurate, closer to flat, and thus more "neutral" sounding.  The Totems tend to have the "Totem dip" in the upp...
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
There is something fairly awe-inspiring about the sheer ballsiness in high end cable prices.  It's almost like watching manufacturers dare themselves (and the public) to keep going one better.  "Ok, unbelievable move there...and someone bought it!...
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
Yep, the high end cable racket.  Always something to behold, and one of the more depressing aspects of the hobby.  But once manufacturers found out how much people would actually pay for fancy cables...the sky has not been a limit.  And everyone a...
Do people really just not get it that their items are not selling...
I like to peruse the items on sale on Audiogon but...wow...is it my imagination or has the number of items being sold here decreased significantly?   It seems fewer items turn up than ever before when I search for certain brands.
If you could just pick one instrument that you think sounds best on your speakers
I'm sure we all want to say "everything."  But restricting the answer asked by the OP, I'd say:  Oboes/Bassoons.I'm a soundtrack fan, and love Bernard Herrmann fan, especially the fantasy films - Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, etc - and his scor...
Best building material for vibration free shelving
Mike,One more detail in case it makes any difference:I just remembered upon looking at my turntable base:  As I said, I have the Maple Block (on which the turntable sits), sitting atop the stainless steel sheet, and then beneath that, the two laye...
Best building material for vibration free shelving
Mike,It turned out I found no need to actually bond the steel sheet to the base.  It seemed simply placing it between the maple block and the MDF  - no glue or damping to bond - worked fine.  Whatever type of wood I sat on to the steel sheet, the ...
