@tomthielI bought some JL Audio subwoofers quite a while ago - and their CR-1 crossover (and an Anti-node DSP unit to use on the subs if I want).I haven’t gotten around to really integrating them yet. Which again will be pushed off for quite a whi...
I like my system flat, no tone controls, no eq..........what is your preference, and why.
mrdecibelThough I don’t use eq, I still certainly desire a system that is more-flat-than-not.My listening room has a wide room opening and for a long time my 2 channel listening room had the listening sofa near a back wall, and speakers placed wel...

mrdecibel,The thread does indeed have a confusing title.  I kept looking at your posts wondering how you had determined your system was "flat" in the first place, and I saw no mention of measurements. But then it appears you have used the term "fla...

Whats the FATTEST sounding Tube amp to warm up Lean speakers?
The very first amps that came to mind were:Dynaco ST70Conrad Johnson MV55 (I owned that for quite a while - very warm, rich tube sound). And, believe it or not...an Eico HF81!They are astonishingly magical little 14W amps that *sound* much bigger a...

It's amazing the amount of b.s. you encounter from high end salesmen (well...they *are* salesmen).   Guys who work decades in a high end store can just ossify in their own ignorance and it's a shame how many people they may miseducate. Fortunately...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
analogluvr,Yes it sure was a good table!  Had to go quite a bit further in build quality/engineering (and new cartridge) to do better.

That was an absolutely fascinating read, Tom.  Thank you!I'd followed Thiel for years, and especially when I was on the hunt for 3.7s in 2015 and afterward, I was fascinated with the story of Thiel's history...and it's demise at the hands of new o...

Tom, thanks I'll try to find your older post when I have time.
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
Apros of what I mentioned earlier in the thread:I just received a copy of one of my favorite movie scores, Jerry Goldsmith's score for Start Trek the original motion picture.  It was remastered by La La Land for both digital and vinyl release not ...

Thiel seems to have generally measured quite well, despite the limitations of the Stereophile methods.A lot of manufacturers diss Stereophile and Atkinson for measurements that don't go their way.  But nonetheless, I am grateful for the work JA ha...

Tom,How did Thiel measure speakers, and what type of facilities did Thiel have for measuring speakers?  Thanks.
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
I asked my young 40 year old neighbor, if any of his friends who he went to college with, were into records or CD's; "Neither", he replied, "They're into streaming"I have my doubts about all these young people into records; In contrast to that: ...
