nuforce 9.02se/belles ref./ moscode 401hr?
If you go for the NuForce 9SE, it's a very dynamic, clear, and detailed amp the way it comes... But if you want it to sound sweeter and more musical I suggest removing the top cover and snipping out the single yellow capacitor across the speaker t...
Alephs with VMPS?
I think NuForce Reference 9.02 or Reference 9SE -- as long as you snip out those sound-degrading yellow caps across the speaker terminals...The caps do reduce RFI slightly, so if you have an FM tuner nearby maybe you'd want to leave them in. But f...
Has your gear ever hurt you???
This may seem suspect to some, but part of my criteria for buying speakers is that they not weigh much over 100 pounds each -- as I really have to be able to move them around without help and without hurting myself. Speakers simply do not need to ...
Oppo, great video reviews,, but good transport????
The audio section of the Oppo probably would fare well against stand alone players of $500 or less. I think more than that would be pushing it, but still, at $150, it's got to be a great value. But just for the sake of argument a used Rega Planet ...
How do you calculate watts per channel?
Sogood51,As I stated above, I tried to give a simple answer. The article you quoted goes into depth on the subject and is an interesting read. What I got out of it was that if you're going through the speakers internal passive crossovers there will...
Oppo, great video reviews,, but good transport????
Hi Chad,I tried my Oppo with my Monarchy M24 DAC and got really ho-hum results. My original Rega Planet was considerably better as a transport. And I've now found that the Rega Apollo makes a great transport when paired with the M24. That combinat...
How do you calculate watts per channel?
As you can see, there seems to be a lot of confusion on this topic, so let me explain it in more simple terms. If your preamp sends a signal to play a midrange note at 500Hz, the amp that is hooked up to your midrange/tweeter section can only pull ...
How do you calculate watts per channel?
No, when you vertically biamp, the power does not add together as some folks think. You will still effectively have only 100 watts per channel whether you bi-amp or tri-amp. To get more power you really need more powerful amp(s).At best you will h...
I could not believe it
I have a Michell Orbe SE with a Wilson Benesch arm and Shelter 501 II cartridge. I also did a fixed-suspension mod on it.The bass detail is unbelievable, better than any other source I've heard, and the layering and dynamics are very impressive. T...
PRat: a DAC or transport thing?
There are many factors that affect a system's PRaT, it is not restricted to the transport and DAC. I'd say that both components are equally important, as is the amplification and cabling (and pretty much everything else in the audio chain).
Class D Amps - FM reception
All the NuForce amps currently available have chokes on the output wiring to supress FM interference. That said, it is possible that if the amps are located very close to the tuner it might still nock out a few weak stations. Stations with moderat...
amp and speaker compatibility
If you turn your amplifier to the maximum volume it is very probable that you are driving the amplifier into severe clipping distortion. Such distortion can and will damage your speakers and possibly your amplifier as well. Most speakers are damag...
CAL Alpha and an Equalizer
I think it would work, but it seems like you are doing too many "wrongs" to try to make a "right." Why not simply invest in a warmer sounding DAC or CD player and sell your current digital gear, since it is not to your liking???
Opinion on VPI HW19 MK3 with Sumiko FT3
I owned an HW19 mk3 with a Sumiko FT3 and I achieved excellent sound with that combination. In fact, I later upgraded to a Mk-IV platter and it got even better. In my opinion, the FT3 is at least as good at the AQ PT-6, if not a little better. $800...
???? T.H.E. Show ?????????
Jj2468, I'd like to answer that, but I'm afraid we'd need to use the "Cone of Silence" for security concerns... And that's been out-of-order for quite some time... Maybe try me on the shoe-phone later.
